C-Fab Friday - Hinged AFO w/ Australian Aboriginal Flag pattern

As with all of our c-fab devices, the aesthetics are a vital part to ensure the end user feels comfortable with their device. We occasionally get requests for designs outside our normal range of transfer paper options, so we have to think outside the box!

To achieve this client’s particular aesthetic desire (having ab Aboriginal flag deco) our technicians actually used 3 different sheets of coloured transfer paper, layering them on the hot plastic right before draping to achieve this effect. It’s a tricky process, but one that we love the final effect of!

This AFO is made of polypropylene and uses Streifeneder elastic orthotic joints for articulation. It was fabricated in-house at our manufacturing facility in Canberra. If you’re interested in getting your orthotic devices fabricated in Australia, contact us today!

C-Fab Friday #2 - Patterned Spinal Orthosis

This week at MHT we manufactured a spinal orthosis with a really unique transfer pattern! This design features different line & dot patterns in brown, giving it a very unique look.

The aesthetics of orthotic devices is always important for the user, which is why we really enjoy fun transfer patterns like this one. The techs also worked hard to make sure it was lined up well, and we’re really happy with the outcome.

Presenting the NEW IN-Pulse Carbon AFO  Prescription Matrix!

For over 18 months now, the MHT workshop have been fabricating carbon orthoses out of pre-preg carbon, with our flagship pre-preg device being our IN-Pulse dynamic AFO. The IN-Pulse is a single piece of pre-preg carbon fibre which is fabricated in-house in Canberra, with an inner LDPE boot & cuff. It’s a device which provides fantastic anatomical support & energy return during the gait cycle, assisting it’s user to have a more natural & efficient gait pattern.
As we approach nearly 2 years since the original launch, we are really excited to reveal a brand-new prescription matrix for IN-Pulse AFOs! This matrix has been designed through a collaboration with and makes selecting a strut stiffness for a device easier than ever before.  Alongside the new prescription matrix is a brand-new Order Form specific for IN-Pulse AFOs. C-Fab Friday #1 - Pink Camo Rocker-Sole AFOs!

We’re excited to be starting a new ongoing series for our Insta page - C-Fab Fridays! In this series we’ll be highlighting some of the orthotic & prosthetic devices fabricated by our amazing technical team.

First off the rank is this pair of Pink Camo Rocker-Sole AFOs, which boast a really vibrant but sophisticated colour scheme! With high forefoot trimlines, the sole & toe plate of the AFO is fully stiffened, which allows for a more natural gait pattern with a locked ankle.

These are just one example of the kinds of devices being fabricated by our team in Canberra - stay tuned for more awesome C-Fab Fridays!

Check out this super specialised KAFO!

This was a massive central fabrication job recently completed at MHT, spearheaded by our workshop manager Tom.

The device is a pre-preg carbon KAFO, with some prosthetic design principles integrated within. It features a prosthetic running blade attachment at the lower leg. This specific set-up allows the patient's foot to stay suspended in space and completely offloaded, with the prosthetic foot attachment providing the energy return to help simulate a normal gait pattern. As a unique addition, we utilised roller-blading straps from on the calf shells to provide a super secure fit.

It was a replication of a patient's existing device which wasn't made by us, but the prescribing clinician specified that the re-make had to be in the EXACT same alignment. This made it quite a tricky job to compete, as we had to wrap the old device in plaster to create a perfect 1:1 replica of the alignment. Though it was a lot of effort, we were absolutely stoked to be involved in this project!
