Say hi to Bonnie

Bonnie is dedicated to helping children develop their communication skills and navigate their world with confidence. After graduating as a speech pathologist from the University of Canberra last December, she joined the team with a focus on providing practical, family-centred support.

Bonnie has a special interest in working alongside culturally and linguistically diverse families, ensuring every child feels understood and supported in their unique journey.

Outside of the clinic, you’ll likely find Bonnie on the tennis court, spending time with her dog, or heading out on her next "food hunting "adventure.

Today we say “see you later” to the wonderful Teena 🌏✨

Teena has wrapped up her second stint with us at Eat Speak Learn, and once again she’s made a big impact on so many of our families. With years of experience as a Speech Pathologist, she has an incredible ability to step in, build connections quickly, and make a real difference in a short space of time.

In true Teena style, she’s now off on her next adventure — heading to Spain to walk the Camino de Santiago 🇪🇸🥾
We feel so lucky that Teena has chosen to spend part of her globetrotting life with us, sharing her knowledge, warmth, and care with our team and families.
Safe travels, Teena — we can’t wait to hear your Camino stories ❤️

Big news for our families!

Our Senior Speech Pathologist, Yani, has recently completed her Diploma in Breastfeeding Management and is now awaiting certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) 👶🍼

Yani brings a wealth of knowledge and a warm, supportive approach to helping families navigate feeding challenges with confidence.

Online appointments are now available, making it even easier to access support from the comfort of your home.

If you can’t find a time that suits you, please give our clinic a call — we’re always happy to help find something that works.

A slightly different (and very enjoyable) team meeting session at Eat Speak Learn today.

We welcomed Gareth from Capital Chemist UC to provide flu vaccinations for the team — a great reminder of the importance of looking after ourselves so we can continue supporting the families we work with.

We also tuned into the National Press Club to hear Mark Butler speak about the NDIS. While there weren’t any major new announcements, it was a valuable opportunity for our team to stay informed and reflect together on what changes might mean for the families we support.

And in true Eat Speak Learn style… there was Lego and Lunch. Lots of it. Including some very fitting animal and botanical builds to brighten our therapy spaces.

Days like this matter. They give us time to connect, reflect, and align as a team — which ultimately benefits every child and family we work with.

Thanks to our incredible team for leaning in as always.

Four years ago, we planted something special 🌱

The Eat Speak Learn Forest was launched with a simple idea — that small actions, taken consistently, can grow into something meaningful over time. What started as a moment has become a living reflection of our values: learning, care, connection, and impact.

Every tree represents more than just growth in the ground. It symbolises the families we support, the progress we celebrate, and the future we’re helping to shape together.

This video takes us back to where it all began — a reminder of why we started and how far we’ve come.

Thank you to our team, our families, the National Arboretum and our community for being part of this journey. 🌿

We posted then, some things his family wanted people to know about Down Syndrome but today we wanted to share more about Thomas and his family’s beautiful journey. Welcome to the Eat Speak Learn Team - Amy.

With over six years of experience as an Occupational Therapist, including three dedicated years in paediatrics, Amy is passionate about supporting children to grow, learn, and thrive. She loves helping kids build joint attention and play engagement, strengthen their fine motor abilities, grow their independence in everyday self-care, and develop confidence through sensory regulation.

Outside of work, you’ll often find Amy dancing, curled up with a good book, or spending time with her mischievous cat, Olaf. Amy is also a dance teacher and she specialises in inclusive dance programs for people of all abilities—an extension of her belief that everyone deserves opportunities to express themselves and shine.

When you are next in clinic, be sure to say hi to Amy.

Strong connection is at the heart of effective intervention. When a child feels safe, understood, and genuinely valued, they are more likely to engage, take risks, and try new skills. Building a positive relationship creates the foundation for learning, allowing therapists to support development in a way that feels meaningful and motivating. When connection comes first, progress often follows. 💬✨

During a session, building connection might look like:
• Taking time at the beginning of a session to talk about a child’s interests or something exciting that happened during their week.
• Joining a child in an activity they already love (e.g., cars, dinosaurs, drawing) and using that shared interest to build communication and learning.
• Following the child’s lead during play rather than directing every step of the activity.
• Celebrating small successes together to help the child feel confident and supported.
• Adjusting activities when a child is feeling tired, overwhelmed, or dysregulated to prioritise emotional safety.
• Using humour, playfulness, and curiosity to make sessions feel enjoyable rather than pressured.

In practice, connection often looks like slowing down, being present, and showing the child that the relationship matters just as much as the skill being taught. 🤝✨

Last week, our team caught up for our “Quarter Cuddle”!

What the hell is that, you ask… every quarter our team gets together for a team development activity and then we follow it up with some team fun.

This quarter, our focus was on our organizational value of excellence - not a one time achievement, or a sign on the wall but as something we choose every day in how we show up, the care and the detail we put into the client experience.

Inspired by Unreasonable Hospitality, the idea that how you do the small things is how you do everything. When you care enough to get the little details right, it shows in the moments that really matter.

After an afternoon of collaborating and refining processes to get the details right - we headed off to laser tag for some fun and healthy competition and dinner at Grease Monkeys.
