Meet Dr Ashleyn Smith
Dr Ashleyn Smith is a GP who graduated from her post-graduate Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery in 2018 through Deakin University, completing the majority of her studies in Ballarat, Victoria. Prior to this, she completed her undergraduate degree as a Registered Nurse, working at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Ballarat Base Hospital. She has additional qualifications in paediatrics through the Sydney Child Health Program (former Diploma of Child Health) She relocated to Canberra in 2021 to start her full time GP training, completing her fellowship in 2023, and has thoroughly enjoyed the friendly small-town feel that Canberra has to offer.
Ashleyn has a particular interest in weight management medicine. She is currently SCOPE certified through the World Obesity Federation for management of obesity and has a Professional Certificate of Medical Nutrition. Additionally, she is undertaking her Masters of Metabolic Health through the University of Sydney and the Advanced Certificate of Medical Nutrition. She is uniquely qualified, having lived experience herself in a higher weight body and enjoys the challenge of finding the right pathway for each individual to achieve their goals.
Outside of medicine, Ashleyn is a keen photographer, a gaming enthusiast and an ice-hockey supporter. She enjoys spending time with her husband, their two cats and a boisterous labrador and walking.
