We often think slowing down requires more space, more time, or fewer responsibilities. But sometimes it’s simply about how we meet what’s already here. A quieter breath. A gentler pace. A little more attention given to the ordinary.

Did you know about our walking session psychology offering?

An appointment type where you can head into the surrounding green space, or down by the lake, strolling outdoors with one of our psychologists, mindfully walking and continuing the conversation in our open natural environment.

Inspired by the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku (forest bathing), walk will immerse you in nature. Doing just this can have significant benefits to your mental and physical health. It lowers stress by switching off the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) and brings on a state of relaxation by activating your parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest).

If you want to take a walk with us please get in touch, we're here to help.

What can you do for yourself today? A moment for pause. A moment for breath. A moment for stretching. Even a couple of minutes can make a big difference to our minds and bodies.

Let’s dive into another powerful therapy - Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).

What’s it all about?
EMDR is a therapeutic technique aimed at helping individuals heal from distressing experiences by altering the associated emotions, thoughts, and behaviours. This therapy allows the brain to resume its natural healing process. During EMDR, clients access and reprocess traumatic memories through guided instructions and bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, making these memories less distressing and more manageable.

Originally developed for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), EMDR is now widely used to treat various conditions, including depression, anxiety, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, and OCD.

EMDR is evidence-based, with numerous studies validating its effectiveness. One of its key advantages is that it typically requires less homework compared to other therapies and is often less stressful for clients. The structured eight-phase process of EMDR includes history-taking, preparation, target assessment, desensitisation with bilateral stimulation, installation of positive beliefs, a body scan for lingering physical sensations, closure, and reevaluation. This thorough approach helps clients effectively process and integrate traumatic memories.

You probably hear us talk about mindfulness quite a bit here. What do we actually mean? No need to overcomplicate it! Here, we are all about simplicity.

Mindfulness can take many different forms. It might be practiced on a yoga mat, but it can also live in everyday moments: in the rhythm of a walk, the simple act of cooking a meal, or the quiet focus of washing dishes.

It’s less about what you’re doing, and more about how you’re doing it.
Bringing gentle awareness to the present moment, without rushing or judging, allows even ordinary tasks to become grounding.

There’s no right way to practice mindfulness. It’s something you can return to again and again, woven into daily life in ways that feel natural and supportive for you.

Hey folks...it can be tempting to hit the ground running this time of year. Just remember - not every moment needs to be productive or purposeful.

Rest, stillness, and quiet reflection are meaningful parts of life too.

Giving yourself permission to pause can be just as nourishing as ticking something off a list.
