Do you take products that contain vitamin B6?
Vitamin B6, also known as pyridoxine, is commonly present in multivitamin and mineral preparations, vitamin B complexes, and in combination with magnesium.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is aware of recent reports, both in Australia and overseas, which indicate that peripheral neuropathy may occur:
- at a daily dose of less than 50 mg a day of vitamin B6
- in consumers taking more than one product containing vitamin B6
If you experience symptoms of peripheral neuropathy, such as tingling, burning, or numbness, you should stop taking the product and seek medical advice.
Please ask your pharmacist about medicines you may be taking, including vitamins, that may contain Vitamin B6.
In the meantime, here is some detailed information on the TGA Interim Decision on Changes to Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) in Australia - https://tinyurl.com/4jkcuw2m

Capital Chemist partners and staff were standing tall amongst the giraffes at the National Zoo and Aquarium last week, as we presented a cheque for $9562 to Global School Partners. Funds were raised through gold coin donations to our annual Community Calendar.

Managed by Capital Chemist group staff member Simon Carroll, GSP raises funds to support around 25 schools in Kenya, with thousands of students benefitting from much needed equipment and infrastructure. These funds have been allocated to the provision of feminine hygiene products to allow young female students to share the dignity.

To the thousands of customers who donated to this cause a huge thank you!

It's coming up to that time of the year again when the morning skies around Canberra are graced with dozens of balloons during the annual Canberra Balloon Spectacular.

The balloons inflate and launch each morning between 15 and 23 March (weather dependant) from around 6am and for those who have braved the dawn start there’s a hot breakfast to enjoy as the balloons lift off and drift across the dawn sky.

You can watch them inflate and take off at John Dunmore Lang Place (the grassed are between Questacon and the National Portrait Gallery) and watch out for the Capital Chemist balloon as it toys with the kayakers and boats on the lake.

Shingles Awareness Week – 24 February until 2 March

Did you know that 1 in 3 people in Australia will develop shingles in their lifetime?

Shingles is a viral infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox.

If you’ve had chickenpox at some point in your life, you could be at risk of developing shingles later on, especially after the age of 50.

Shingles Awareness Week from 24 February to 2 March 2025 aims to increase understanding of the impact of shingles and address common misconceptions about the condition.

Shingles typically presents as a painful rash that develops on one side of the body, often in a stripe of blisters. Common symptoms include:

• Pain, burning, or tingling in the affected area
• Sensitivity to touch
• A red rash that appears a few days after the pain
• Fluid-filled blisters that break open and crust over
• Itching

Some people may also experience fever, headache, sensitivity to light, and fatigue.
