The evening marked the release of “So, what happens now?” — a beautifully written, free grief resource guide for families who have experienced the unimaginable loss of a child.

Created with compassion, care, and lived experience, this guide offers practical support for bereaved parents, siblings, and loved ones.

A study published in August 2024* found that infants cluster their vocalisations into three main categories:

1. Squeals,
2. Growls,
3. Vowel-like sounds.

This "vocal play" happens with or without adult interaction, suggesting babies are natural explorers of their vocal abilities!

Key findings:
87% of infants showed significant clustering of squeals and growls.
Clustering was most common after 5 months of age.

This behaviour occurs typically in developing children taking in their surroundings.

The Callier Center for Communication Disorders analysed home recordings including times when adults were interacting with their child and when children were on their own, showing that children explore their vocal capabilities with or without language input from an adult.

So next time you hear your little one babbling away, remember they're not just making random noises – they're actively practicing their future speech skills!
