Advance Physiotherapy is a brand new, purpose-built clinic established in early 2020. Women who have 4 or more of the following have a 61% higher likelihood of developing running related pain.
- Average sleep 19
- Being a self-described "novice runner"
- Previous running injuries.
- Incontinence.
- Vaginal delivery.
It's a reminder that reducing injury risk is mutlifactorial.
Experts recommend that women don't return to running until 12 weeks post partum to give themselves time to develop basic strength and conditioning, address any musculoskeletal injuries, restore pelvic floor function and continence and find ways to prioritise rest and recovery.
Time frames are a guide, though.
Returning to running post-partum should be criteria driven. So you need to be able to walk, squat, hop, etc, without pain or dysfunction before you can run.

Sarah is a musculoskeletal physiotherapist who has also completed additional women's pelvic floor training. She can offer assessment and treatment for previous running injuries and pelvic floor pain or dysfunction (excluding pessary fittings).

For guidance on a graduated post-partum strengthening / return to exercise program, you might be interested to follow and .active. Both ladies run great programs.
