Barefoot Medicine - Shining a light on lung cancer.
November is Lung Cancer Awareness month so lets talk lung cancer.
- The best way to find lung cancer early is to have regular lung cancer screening.
- Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in Australia. But if found early, most cases can be treated successfully.
-To***co cigarette smoking is the biggest risk factor for lung cancer.
- Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide.
- Screening works by finding cancer early, before you have symptoms, when it is not as hard to treat or cure.

Patients between 50 and 70 with a smoking history in the past 10 years may be eligible for a Lung Cancer Screening. Next time you are in speak to your practitioner about a screening.

Barefoot Medicine uses a text message reminder system. If you receive the message below it means either your results are back and the practitioner wishes to follow up with you, or we have received correspondence that needs actioning.

These are non-urgent but do require a follow up appointment. When booking the appointment online please select 'recall appointment' as your appointment type or if phoning, let the staff know it is a recall. This will stop unnecessary reminders going out.

If you have received your results elsewhere and don't wish to keep receiving a recall notice, please phone the clinic and let them know.

Initial consult required and follow up half an hour appointment for procedure.

At this stage Barefoot Medicine is no longer providing on-line script orders. Once the fabulous Dr Jane and Dr Mohammad have gotten a chance to meet and get to know you we will look at bringing this back.

Patients of Dr Andrew are reminded to book with the new Doctor's (or a practitioner of your choice) in order to continue with any regular script requirements and so as not to run out.

Appointments available with in-house Paediatric Psychologist Michelle Macpherson. Speak to your G.P. regarding a referral.

Appointments available via HotDocs - please note this is not a bulk billed service. Each session goes for 50 minutes with an upfront cost of $300. Eligible patients will receive a Medicare rebate of 98.95

Through her work, Michelle aims to:

 Teach young people ‘how’ to think, manage their emotions and take full ownership of their choices and actions. Self-empowerment and self-awareness is key!
 Educate and empower parents/caregivers and teachers who may be experiencing difficulty or uncertainty about managing a young person’s behaviour, mental health or general wellbeing.
 Enhance community cohesion through collaboration, education and networking.
 Engage families and the community at large with the provision of affordable and accessible professional guidance, education and information to support youth mental health/wellbeing.
 Enhance relationship dynamics within the family and/or school environment by developing a deeper awareness of the complexities of youth mental health.
 Reduce the impact of further risk and hardship for young people, their families and the community.
 Drive positive change to improve outcomes and empower young people and the community at large.

hey it’s Dr Andrew - I would just like to say how proud I am to have helped to look after the whitsundays community. I have met some amazing patients and have tried to help where I can with the help of our amazing staff at Barefoot Medicine without whom it would have been impossible.
I have been totally humbled by the comments that some of you have written in the farewell book.

I am so incredibly sad to be leaving but it is not goodbye - our family needs us at this time but I believe in the power of fate so every day is an adventure.

the staff will be the same so please support them along with the new docs and I will help where I can
