💜🫶 There's something profound about mothering — supporting our children through the hard stuff, cheering like crazy through the good stuff, and witnessing their evolution.

🥰 The most beautiful part of my job is witnessing a mother's evolution and cheering her on. 🥳

💜What I know from doing this work is that when we understand our own evolution and begin to name the invisible loads we're carrying, we create space for more joy, laughter, and lightness in our mothering years — and we show up more fully in those front row seats. Because the gift isn't just watching our children evolve — it's evolving alongside them.

We're bringing together mums from all three Masterclass groups to meet each other, build our tribe, and learn together.

💜🤩Our guest speaker is Joanna Ruddell, an occupational therapist from Little Steps Paediatric Therapy. Jo is joining us to talk about something that underpins so much of our daily experience as mothers: our nervous system.

💡⭐We'll be exploring what the nervous system does, and what self-regulation and co-regulation actually are.

💜🫶This is the kind of knowledge that makes the invisible work mothers do - visible. The kind that helps us make sense of why some days feel more draining than others. There is a beautiful synergy between Jo's work and sociological theories that is often unexplored. I'm excited we're getting the chance to unpack it in this collab.

💜The science both women shared, to reveal the connection between our oral and lymphatic health and maternal wellbeing – was mind-blowing.

🚺⭐Dr Alice Harriott from Whitsunday Family Dental explored:
🦷 dental sensitivity and its connection to our menstrual cycle
🦷 how teeth impact our sleep
🦷 the links between pregnancy, perimenopause and dental health
🦷 the fascinating connection between our oral microbiome and whole-body health – including our dementia risk profile!

🚺⭐Kristy Gardel (RN) from Flux Lymphatics explained:
🙌 what our lymphatic system is
🙌 why it is absolutely central to healing and detoxifying the body
🙌 ways we can support it at home with specific techniques
🙌 how lymphatic massage differs from other types of massage and the incredibly beneficial impact it has on our body as a whole.

⭐🎯WHY DOES IT MATTER? (This is the important bit.)
How a woman experiences matrescence is not random. This profound identity shift doesn't happen in a vacuum. It is shaped — by culture, by policy, by centuries of gendered expectations.

⭐🚺Acknowledging matrescence is a step to seeing all of this clearly. It’s an invitation to question how becoming a mother has changed us, how our culture shapes the relationship we have with our child, AND who decided what being a ‘good’ mother means.

Matrescence opens the door to
💚truly listening to and researching the lived experiences of mothers,
💚acknowledging the gendered expectations mothers face,
💚building support infrastructure that is actually helpful for families, and

👑This week we're welcoming two brilliant local women to the Motherhood and Matrescence office: Dr Alice Harriott (Dentist) and Kristy Gardel (Lymphatic Specialist).

💜⭐Both of these women are focusing on the maternal body.

🚺Maternal wellbeing is often thought about as a purely mental health concept. But maternal wellbeing isn't one-dimensional. It's not just about the physical, or just about the mental. It's about understanding our bodies as a whole ecosystem – including the parts we rarely talk about in the context of motherhood and matrescence.

🥰🫶The joy is, when local practitioners unite to support maternal wellbeing, when we share knowledge and support each other's work, that's when real change happens. That's when mothers get the comprehensive care they deserve!

💜 The office was recently transformed into a professional development space for mining and software professionals. ⏱️The focus of my presentation was Time Management - who better to talk about time management than a busy mother? 😜

💜 Jokes aside, the context and audience was different but it held the same underlying truth: we're all trying to reclaim agency over how we spend our days.

⏱️Whilst lots of time management strategies were presented, this session wasn't about jamming more into the day, it was about exploring how our roles and responsibilities, the invisible loads we carry impact our wellbeing.

Here's what the research tells us:
💙 Stress drops by 20-30%, work-life balance improves, and job satisfaction increases when you manage your time effectively.
💙People who feel they have control over their time experience 50% less emotional exhaustion and burnout. That’s a huge win!
