Choosing the right NDIS respite provider matters 💙
Respite (also known as Short-Term Accommodation or STA) should feel safe, calm and supportive - not stressful. The right provider takes time to understand your family member’s needs, offers consistent and skilled support, and creates a space that truly feels like a home away from home.
At Tea-cup Cottage, our respite supports are warm, personalised and relationship-based. We focus on meaningful activities, comfort, independence and connection - so families can feel confident, and carers can truly rest.
Because good respite isn’t just a break - it’s an opportunity to grow, connect and feel at home.

Queensland’s disability and aged care sector is changing — and the future is being shaped right now.
With major reforms raising expectations around quality, transparency and inclusion, the focus is shifting beyond compliance to what good care looks like in practice: care that is person-centred, connected, accessible and grounded in lived experience.
In our latest blog, we explore:
• What current disability and aged care reforms mean for Queensland
• Why person-centred care must go beyond policy
• The growing role of innovation and digital-first service delivery
• How strong community and healthcare partnerships strengthen outcomes
• What leadership in care looks like as the sector evolves
At Tea-cup Cottage, we believe the next chapter of care will be defined by dignity, collaboration and intentional design — not just regulation.

Caring for a loved one with disability can be deeply rewarding, but it can also be demanding, both emotionally and physically 💛

Disability respite care plays a quiet yet vital role in supporting families, carers and communities.

It offers short-term support that allows carers time to rest and recharge, while ensuring people with disability continue to receive safe, nurturing and meaningful care.

When delivered thoughtfully, respite is about more than a break. It supports wellbeing, social connection and independence, helping families sustain care over the long term and strengthening the communities around them.

In our latest blog, we explore:
🌻 Why respite care matters
🌻 How it supports quality of life
🌻 The role it plays in long-term, sustainable care
🌻 What thoughtful, person-centred respite really looks like

Our Story

Welcome to Tea-Cup Cottage! We're a small independent disability service provider that aspires to deliver exceptional experiences to people in our community. We believe that details matter, connecting people with meaningful supports is incredibly important, and that everyone should have the opportunity to live a great life.

Founded in 2010, Alexandra Shaw established Tea-Cup after seeking more choice and control over the disability services available to her own family. Since then it has flourished, now offering everything from short-term accommodation, in-home support and supported independent living to community access, social experiences, children’s programs, post-school support and more!
