Understanding the costs of living in Supported Independent Living (SIL) ๐ก
Moving into a SIL home is an exciting step toward independence - and itโs important to understand how the costs work.
SIL funding through the NDIS covers the support you receive inside the home, like personal care, daily routines, medication support, skill-building and overnight support. It pays for the support workers, not the day-to-day cost of living.
Just like any adult living independently, participants still contribute to ordinary living costs, including rent, utilities, groceries, transport, medications and social activities. These costs are usually shared with housemates, making them more manageable.
If you also receive SDA funding, this helps cover the cost of the specialised home - but everyday living expenses still apply.
At For Care, we take the time to explain costs clearly before you move in, support budgeting where needed, and keep everything transparent for participants and families.
The goal is confidence, independence and feeling at home ๐
