✅ TIP TUESDAY
THE CREEP METHOD
Do you find stretching uncomfortable? I did until I discovered the creep method.
Often stretching feels more like a tug-a-war with myself, instead of a nice stretch. So what you can do instead of going hard at the stretch, is take your time and just creep bit by bit.
Whatever the stretch is, just take it to where you just feel it pulling a bit and stop. Just wait for a moment for the tissue to stretch out a bit. Then creep another centimetre and stop again. Just wait for the muscle and fascia to catch up with you before creeping a bit further. Before you know it, you’ve stretched even further than previously. This all helps to keep your muscles supple, which in turn enables your joints to work through their full range of motion, instead of getting stuck half way, or even seized up completely.
We can of course help those joint and muscle restrictions with a good deep tissue massage. Stretching then, is a great way to maintain your function and mobility.

If you are feeling stiff and tight, you can always check in with us to make sure your legs and lower back are doing OK. Call us today: 0423 779 400

✅ TIP TUESDAY
NO SUBSTITUTE FOR HANDS-ON TREATMENT
I’ve lost count of the number of clients over the years that have tried literally dozens of therapists of all modalities, without any real lasting relief or success. When they lay on the treatment table, it doesn’t take long to locate some of the key restrictions and mechanical problems causing them grief. I then ask them: has anyone worked on this before? I’m shocked and feel somewhat disappointed for them, as the answer almost unanimously comes back as a resounding NO, I haven't had anyone work specifically on the area.
When I conduct training workshops and masterclasses for other therapists, I like to remind them that dry needling, cupping, hot stones, trigger point, laser, ultrasound, tens machine all provide icing on the cake, but they aren’t the cake. Absolutely nothing substitutes good hands-on treatment. That is the cake! And what a difference hands-on remedial massage and deep tissue massage makes.
You should try one!

✅ TIP TUESDAY
SHOULD DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE HURT?
Many of you may sometimes worry that having a deep tissue massage is going to hurt. Some of you may have had a bad experience with a therapist that was just a bit too enthusiastic and may have needed to modify their technique slightly.
There is definitely a difference between a hard massage and a deep massage. When a therapist uses a well refined and sensitive technique, they are able to reach the deeper tight layers of muscle and fascia without causing undue pain and discomfort. In fact many clients regularly say how relieving it feels, to have those deep muscles released, even when it may occasionally feel a bit uncomfortable for a few moments on the treatment table. It’s always worthwhile though, as it often provides immediate and lasting relief.

✅ TIP TUESDAY
DON’T BE HAMSTRUNG
Your hamstring muscles running up the back of your thigh are one of the biggest and strongest muscles in your body. They have a huge impact on your lower back and pelvic balance and symmetry. Make sure you give them a regular stretch so that they don’t start twisting or tilting your pelvis the wrong way. Hamstring stretches can be easily done while sitting on the couch and trying to touch your toes. Try bending your knee slightly as you slide your hand down one shin and then the other shin. This will allow your stretch to target the belly of the muscle and not just the tendon insertions behind your knee.
If you are feeling stiff and tight, you can always check in with us to make sure your legs and lower back are doing OK. Call us today: 0423 779 400

TIP TUESDAY : TONE UP YOUR CORE
As we all get older, we soften up a bit around the middle, which isn’t very good for your lower back and posture. Toning up your core muscles with exercises such as planks can make a huge difference, as you engage way more muscles to support your spine, instead of just a few right at the back.
Give it a try for a few weeks and see what a difference it makes.
Your back and pelvis may need straightening up though, so feel free to check in with us to get you walking in a straight line again.

TIP TUESDAY : ARE YOU SLEEPING PROPERLY?
One of the causes of neck pain and pins and needles into your hands may come from either sleeping on your stomach, or sleeping with your arm up under your pillow.
In both cases it places pressure on your upper neck, or on the nerve supply coming from the lower part of your neck.
The ideal sleeping position is either on your side, or on your back, unless you snore, in which case you should definitely sleep on your side. 😉
This will help keep you in a neutral position over night and hopefully less headaches, neck pain and pins and needles down your arm.
If symptoms persist, then definitely come in and see us. We’ll get you going again!

TIP TUESDAY : LOOK UP
Which direction are you looking right now?
You are probably on your hand held device, so I strongly suspect you are looking down.
Did you know the average person spends almost seven hours per day looking down at a computer screen or mobile device. It isn’t any wonder headaches and migraines are such a common complaint. It’s all the looking down that causes the muscles down the front of your neck to shorten, and the muscles down the back of your neck to tighten up due to being over worked.
So don’t forget to look up. Stretch your neck across to one side and then lift up your chin. You should feel those tight sternomastoid muscles down the front of your neck stretching. Then repeat the same stretch on the other side.
Headaches and migraine are certainly painful and difficult to live with, so please feel free to get in touch with me, or one of our amazing therapists to help get you out of trouble and back to pain free living.

If you have a friend who might need some help from the Advanced Remedial Therapists, please send them our way. Call 0423 779 400 or https://www.advancedremedialtherapy.com/our-therapists/

TIP TUESDAY : STOP WRECKING YOUR BODY
One of the most common questions asked by you as clients is; what exercises can I do to help this problem?
My response is; yes, I can show you a few simple exercises to help your neck or lower back, which is very helpful in maintaining and slowly improving mobility. But the most helpful tip I can give you, isn’t the exercises. It is simply this!
STOP doing the thing that’s causing the problem in the first place.
It doesn’t matter how diligent you are with the stretches and exercises. You will undo everything in five minutes flat by doing the wrong thing with your body.
So try to work out what’s causing or exacerbating your issues and avoid repeating it.

TIP 1 : KEEP MOVING
Make sure you establish a healthy balance with the way you use your body. If you sit a lot for work, then add some form of exercise like a gym class, or walking into your daily routine. All you tradies and physical workers do some stretching or go for a swim to loosen up your muscles and joints.

Using your muscles and joints in repetitive patterns, is often the cause of most aches and pains. So give your body some variety with a healthy balance of movement and rest.

If you need some more professional care, book in to see one of our therapists today. We get you moving and out of pain.

CHIRO UPDATE
Lisa from The Bayside Chiro works from our clinic and is on maternity leave from now until August/September. However, you will still be in brilliant hands with Chiropractors Laura and Georgia who are relieving her.

Laura carries a wealth of experience with her – She treats patients of all ages and also has post grad qualifications in DNS – Dynamic Neuro Stabilisation. She is an incredible manual adjuster for those who love the cracks but is also very competent in all areas of soft tissue work and rehab.

Georgia is a well rounded family Chiropractor with special interest in paediatrics. Currently, she is completing her post-grad diplomate in paediatric chiropractic, and is a huge asset to our clinic! She utilises a combination of manual adjustments as well as SOT, Activator and soft tissue release. As well as babies, Geogia sees patients of all ages and again, we are very lucky to have another excellent manual adjuster in the clinic.

Appointments will be available Mon-Fri and both girls are doing one Saturday each a month. Bookings are live now for appointments. (Just use Lisa's booking link on Advanced Remedial Therapy, our Therapists page.)

If you are a current patient and have any question or concerns, please reach out to Lisa. She will still be available via email or text. All clinic notes are accessible by the girls so there should be a seamless transition!
