Breastfeeding is a journey — and with the right support, every step becomes more manageable, more empowering, and more sustainable.

🤱 When families, health systems, communities, and workplaces support breastfeeding, mothers are more likely to reach their goals — leading to:
💚 Stronger immunity and development for babies
💚 Reduced health risks for mothers
💚 A deepened emotional bond between parent and child
💚 Greater confidence and well-being for breastfeeding parents.
💚 Experiencing the joy of breastfeeding.

Support isn’t just helpful — it’s essential. As this week comes to a close, let’s commit to building a world where every parent feels supported, every baby gets a healthy start, and every breastfeeding goal is within reach.

Breastfeeding is more than a first food — it’s the first step toward a healthier future.

Sustained breastfeeding through the first two years and beyond provides long-term protection against infections, supports brain development, and reduces the risk of chronic diseases later in life.

🤱 Breast milk is a living, evolving source of nutrition and immunity.
💚 It strengthens the bond between mother and child.
🌱 It’s sustainable, accessible, and cost-effective.

Let’s work together to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding — because a healthier future begins at the breast.

Breastfeeding thrives when partners, grandparents, and friends:

👂 Listen without judgment

🍽️ Help with household tasks

🛑 Don’t pressure to wean

👶 Understand normal baby behaviour

📣 Let’s shift the pressure off the parent and into the support system.

It really does take a village.

🧑‍💼 Workplaces can make or break breastfeeding goals.

Parents returning to work often feel forced to choose between income and feeding.

We need:

🕓 Flexible hours

🤫 Private expressing/ breastfeeding spaces

💰Paid parental leave policies that align with breastfeeding goals

Let’s prioritise policies that don’t just allow breastfeeding — they actively protect and support it.

Breastfeeding isn’t a one-person job. When partners offer support — through encouragement, shared responsibilities, and emotional presence — mothers are more likely to initiate and continue breastfeeding successfully.

👨‍👩‍👧 Partner support can mean:
✔️ Preparing meals or helping with night-time duties
✔️ Creating a calm, supportive environment
✔️ Advocating for her needs at work or in the community
✔️ Saying, “You’re doing an amazing job.”

💡 Families thrive when support is shared. Let’s empower partners to be part of the breastfeeding journey — because their role is vital too.

Is your hospital or health service breastfeeding-friendly?

The Baby Friendly Health Initiative (BFHI) is one way we build sustainable support into health systems.

✅ Staff education

✅ Skin-to-skin care

✅ Responsive feeding

✅ Avoiding unnecessary formula

✅ Ongoing follow-up

Health services should be a strong foundation — not a barrier — to breastfeeding.

Let’s keep raising the bar.

🌏 It’s World Breastfeeding Week 2025!

This year’s theme is “Prioritise Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems.”

🤱 Breastfeeding doesn’t just benefit babies and parents — it benefits society.

But it takes more than individual effort. It takes systems.

Let’s talk this week about what real support looks like — at home, in hospitals, at work, and in our communities.

This intimate photo, likely over a century old, reminds us that the bond between mother and baby transcends generations. The act of nourishing, comforting, and connecting through breastfeeding has always been deeply human.

While the world around us changes, the quiet strength in this moment remains the same.

To all the mothers navigating their own feeding journey today—know that you are part of a long, resilient line. Whether your path has been smooth or you have faced challenges, your love is what truly endures. 💛

From Market Stalls to Maternity Wards—Breastfeeding Belongs.

Different country. Same story.

A mother, her baby, and the quiet rhythm of a feed in the middle of a bustling Vietnamese market.

Breastfeeding is a shared human experience—crossing borders, cultures, and generations. It’s how babies have been nurtured for millennia, whether in Hanoi or Hobart, at home or on the go.

This is normal. This is powerful. This is love. Let’s keep making space for it—everywhere. 🌏🤱

Dads & Newborns: The Power of Time Together 💙👶

In those early days, every cuddle, every whisper, and every shared moment helps build a strong bond between dads and their newborns. While dads may not be the ones breastfeeding, their presence and involvement play a huge role in a baby’s development and family connection.

✨ Why Dad Time Matters:
👶 Boosts Baby’s Development – Skin-to-skin, talking, and gentle touch help regulate baby’s heart rate, temperature, and stress levels.
💖 Strengthens the Parent-Infant Bond – Babies recognize and respond to dad’s voice, smell, and comforting presence.
🤱 Supports Breastfeeding – A hands-on dad can help by bringing baby to mum, soothing between feeds, and creating a calm environment.
💪 Builds Confidence in both Dad & Baby – The more time spent together, the more comfortable and connected they both feel.
💤 Helps With Sleep & Soothing – Dads can rock, cuddle, and settle baby, giving mum some much-needed rest in between feeds.

💡 Ways Dads Can Bond:
✔️ Skin-to-skin cuddles
✔️ Babywearing for walks or naps
✔️ Bath time fun
✔️ Reading or singing to baby
✔️ Being involved in nappy changes & settling

Dads, every little moment counts. The love and security you provide now lasts a lifetime. 💙

Let Your Baby Stretch! How Freedom of Movement Supports Breastfeeding 🤱✨

Did you know that allowing your baby to stretch out can actually improve breastfeeding? Babies aren’t meant to be curled up tightly all the time—having room to move helps with feeding, comfort, and development!

🌟 Why Movement Matters for Breastfeeding:
✔️ Encourages a Deep Latch – Babies who can extend their bodies can tilt their heads back for a wider, more effective latch.
✔️ Supports Natural Feeding Reflexes – Unrestricted movement allows babies to use their hands to find the breast, self-attach, and feed more efficiently.
✔️ Reduces Tension & Discomfort – Being tightly swaddled or held too rigidly all the time can make feeding harder, while stretching helps babies feel relaxed and in control.
✔️ Promotes Healthy Muscle Development – Moving freely strengthens neck, shoulder, and jaw muscles—important for sucking and swallowing!

Give your baby some time unswaddled each day and allow them to stretch and move, it will support your breastfeeding journey.

Breastfeeding Twins: Double the Love, Double the Benefits! 🤱🤱💕

Breastfeeding one toddler is a journey, breastfeeding two is an incredible achievement. Every drop of breastmilk counts and continues to provide valuable benefits.

✨ Why keep going?
👶 Tailored Nutrition – Breastmilk adapts to your twins’ needs, providing immune support, healthy fats, and essential nutrients.
🛡 Immune Boost – Breastfeeding helps protect against illness.
💤 Comfort & Sleep – Breastfeeding provides reassurance and helps with naps and nighttime wake-ups.
🤱 Connection – Breastfeeding twins is a special way to bond with each of them individually and together.

💡 Tips for Feeding Toddler Twins:
✔️ Experiment with positions – Tandem nursing is generally most efficient.
✔️ Trust your body – Your supply adjusts to meet their needs, just as it has from the start.
✔️ Follow their lead – Some toddlers breastfeed frequently, while others gradually reduce feeds—every journey is unique!

Breastfeeding beyond a year is normal, beneficial, and totally possible—even with twins! 🌟
