If you're trying to quit smoking, have you tried any of these methods?

There's lots of different ways to quit and there's no shame in trying different things until something sticks. In fact, the most effective way to quit is by using a combination of methods.

Here's some more ideas to help you on your quit journey:
> use ni****ne replacement therapy like gum, patches or lozenges to help you ride out the cravings
> get support from friends and family
> try to cut down a little bit each day
> keep a quit journal to track your progress
> sip on water, chew sugar-free gum and have regular healthy snacks to help distract you from cravings
> remind yourself regularly of why you want to quit
> try to steer clear of situations where you'll be around smoking.

Quitline are also here for you. Give them a call on 13 78 48 for free support or head to https://www.quithq.initiatives.qld.gov.au/

A simple text could be the first step towards support. 📱

A free SMS support program is helping Queenslanders take the first step with alcohol and other drug concerns in a way that feels safe, private and easy.

Run by Adis 24/7 Alcohol and Drug Support, the program sends helpful messages straight to your phone. It’s for people who may not feel ready to call or see someone but still want support to reach their goals. 💬

'The SMS Support Program breaks down that initial barrier of reaching out for help, which we know so many people struggle with,' Adis senior counsellor Clare said.

There are three different support options available:
> 30-day program (two support messages a day)
> detox support program (designed to complement medically supported detox for 14 days)
> weekend tips (offers guidance during higher-risk periods like Fridays and weekends).

The messages offer simple advice, encouragement and support without judgement. 🤗

'Feelings of shame or stigma can make it even harder for people to ask for support. This text program offers that support without an added layer of pressure,' Clare said.

More than 600 Queenslanders have already signed up. Many say the messages help them stay on track, especially on tough days.

'For some people, it’s the first time they’ve ever engaged with a support service, and it helps them feel a little less nervous about taking the next step,' she said.

The Adis SMS Support Program is free and available across Queensland. You can join at any time and stop whenever you like.

Just take the next step when you feel ready. 😊

Unexpected injuries and illnesses can be a serious setback to holidays and weekend plans.

If you have something that can’t wait for a regular GP appointment but doesn’t need a trip to the hospital, that’s a case for a Medicare Urgent Care Clinic.

Urgent care is when you have an illness or injury that needs medical attention the same day, but isn’t life threatening.

Things that may need urgent medical care include:
✅ minor burns and infections
✅ urinary tract infections (UTIs)
✅ insect bites and rashes
✅ sports injuries
✅ respiratory illness
✅ gastro.
