'Guys, what did I do last night?' Sound familiar? 🤔

If you've had so much to drink that you don't remember what happened, you may have had an alcohol-related blackout.

Blackouts occur when alcohol temporarily blocks the transfer of memories from short to long-term storage. You'll be awake, but memories of events won't form, and they usually can't be recovered.

It's as if the events never occurred. 😯

For example, you might remember arriving at a party or festival after your first drink. But the memories you make as the night goes on (when you're more intoxicated) won't be there when you're sober.

Want to keep your night memorable? Follow these tips:
🍷 Drink slowly and know your limit.
💦 Alternate alcohol with water.
🍽️ Eat before and while drinking.

The alcohol guidelines recommend no more than 4 standard drinks on any one day and no more than 10 standard drinks in a week.

Hands up if you have a bowel screening kit sitting unused in your cupboard. 🙋

If your hand's up, it's time to block out your calendar and get it done!

The kits have an expiry date, so it's a good idea to do your bowel screening test as soon as you get the kit in the mail.

The test is quick and easy (and not as gross as you think).

All you need to do is take a tiny sample from two different poos. If you're worried about the 'ick factor', the test comes with collection sticks, so you won't get poo on your fingers. Then you just place the samples in the supplied sealed reply-paid envelope, pop it in the post and wait for the results. 💩

Add it to your calendar now—you can thank us for the reminder later. 😉

WEATHER SYSTEM UPDATE
TELEHEALTH ONLY THURSDAY-FRIDAY

To our valued patients,
As you are aware Cyclone Alfred is on its way to the Brisbane region and with it brings many uncertainties. To keep everyone safe, we will be shut for face to face appointments Thursday and Friday. Our phones will not be operational during this time. Most of our face to face GP appointments will be changed to telehealth. Some allied health appointments will be changed to telehealth or postponed. If you have an urgent physical need that is not suitable for telehealth we urge you to ring us today so that we can assist you to find a solution. We apologise for any inconvenience during this time.

We ask that patients please save our phone number (07 3135 9898) to their favourites on their mobile phones in case we need to contact you. Please do your best to answer if we attempt to ring you about an appointment. In the event of wide spread power failures you may also receive phone calls from a blocked or unknown number. We will leave a message if we cannot reach you.

Our healthcare providers will do their best to contact you via video-health or phone on Thursday and Friday. If you are not contacted by them, this may be because some or all of Westfield has lost power and therefore we have lost access to our server and other operations. It may also be because your healthcare provider is unable to due to personal circumstances related to the cyclone.
