Understanding why your cat scratches can help protect your furniture and keep your cat happy and healthy.

Some main points for scratching are:
👉Natural instincts: scratching sharpens claws and keeps them healthy.
👉Territorial marking: cats have scent glands in their paws, scratching marks their space.
👉Stretch & exercise: scratching provides a full-body stretch, especially for shoulder muscles.
👉Stress relief: scratching can calm anxious or frustrated cats.

Bova tip: provide scratching posts in different textures and locations, and reward your cat for using them. For persistent scratching or sudden behaviour changes, consult your vet as sometimes it’s a sign of stress or discomfort.
