A down-to-earth Iyengar yoga studio in the heart of Carlton North, Victoria with a range of friendly Mr BKS Iyengar founded the Iyengar style.
He is known for bringing yoga to the West and is renowned for his innovative use of props (ie blankets, belts, blocks) to support yoga practice in order to avoid strain and risk of physical damage. In our studio classes we start with a few moments of quiet to prepare for the yoga. Preliminary poses mobilise, open and activate the body to encourage a focused, concentrated state of mind. Standing poses promote the fundamentals of how to adjust and align the body correctly, and which then informs the practice of more advanced poses such as inversions (handstand, headstand) and backbends.

Recently weβve focused on developing greater awareness of our shoulder joints and tendons, untangling (or, just simply finding stillness!) the many layers of muscles around the ribs and shoulder girdle.
Put into practice, the arms start to feel long, balanced and stable, which support the core and the length of the spine - particularly helpful for inversion confidence!πππ
