AMWU Victoria

AMWU Victoria The AMWU Victorian Branch represents workers in all areas of manufacturing across Victoria. This page is a community of union members and supporters.

The Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union represents tens of thousands of workers in all areas of manufacturing around Australia, including: Food and confectionery; Metal and engineering; Printing and packaging; Technical, laboratory, supervisory and administrative areas; and Vehicle building, service and repair. The AMWU aims to ensure our members receive the pay, conditions, safety and respec

t they deserve at work. We fight for a fair deal for workers – both at work and in the community. We believe in a fair and equal society for all, with the provision of public social services including education, health care, and of dignity in retirement. If you work in manufacturing, we will work together to help protect you, your colleagues, and your rights at work.

Today, we pause to honour and remember our brave members who have fallen in times of war.

Their sacrifices and the heavy toll endured by those they've left behind have paved the way for the peace we treasure today. Lest we forget.

On April 21, workers in Victoria downed tools and changed the course of history.
8 hours didn’t come from nowhere.
It was fought for on sites like this.
By workers like us.
We didn’t ask for 8 hours. We won them.

A worker cleaning machinery at Alpine MDF Industries in Wangaratta suffered a devastating arm injury when his rag became caught in rotating rollers, pulling his arm into the machine. The injuries were so severe that they required skin grafts.

Investigations found that the machine's safety system wasn't functioning properly, and the workers were left to clean it without correct supervision while it was still powered.

With legal support, the worker held the employer accountable. The company has now committed $170,800 towards workplace safety improvements after facing charges for failing to provide a safe workplace.

Cases like this highlight why injured workers shouldn't face the system alone. Experienced workplace injury lawyers can help ensure their voices are heard, employers are held accountable, and meaningful safety changes are made to prevent others from suffering the same harm.

No worker should be put at risk because of unsafe systems or faulty safety equipment.

If you've been injured at work, legal advice can make a real difference. Get in touch with our lawyers, Gordon Legal.
