Umps We've reimagined the personal alarm. Safety at your fingertips without compromising on style.

Umps is a Victorian health-tech company redefining the personal alarm industry to help older adults and NDIS participants stay safe, independent and healthy at home for longer. Our flagship product, the Umps Link Home Alarm, is the culmination of six years of dedicated research and development, designed in collaboration with some of the largest aged care providers in Victoria and older adults. The personal alarm pendant weighs just 12 grams, doesn’t require charging and is fully reimbursable under the Home Care Package Program, geat2GO and the NDIS. Umps is also transforming aged care delivery by partnering with home care providers and retirement villages. Our innovative monitoring and communication solutions are enabling providers to deliver proactive, efficient care at scale. Umps' technologies have been installed in thousands of households across Australia and New Zealand, earning recognition with a prestigious Good Design Award.

Next week, HammondCare and the Dementia Centre are hosting the 2020 International Dementia Conference, with the voices of people with a lived experience of dementia taking centre-stage.

The virtual format allowed us to take a different approach with our submission, and instead of uploading a presentation we recorded an interview with Dianne.

Dianne received the Umps Smart Home from Uniting AgeWell earlier this year and uses it to support her mum living with dementia. In the interview, Dianne talks through how she uses the Umps Smart Home to help prompt her mum around mealtimes and highlights that with less stress, communication with her mum has become much nicer.

You can watch a 2 minute snippet of the interview here. If you're attending the conference you can download the full 11 minute version from the conference website, otherwise send us a direct message and we can provide you a link.

This is the sort of pragmatic, user-centred innovation we are seeing every day within the aged care sector.

Geelong home care provider MACS - Multicultural Aged Care Services Geelong has converted an old shipping container into a visitor pod. The pod allows families and older relatives to continue seeing one another, while physically distancing through a glass barrier.

"It's enabled us to check with mum, and spend some time with her 'face-to-face" says Enzo, whose mum Giovanna is a resident at MACS residential care home.

What's even more impressive is how quickly the idea was implemented. "This was an idea that came about, and came to reality within 3 weeks" says Joy Leggo, CEO of MACS Geelong.

MACS was the recipient of the 2019 Provider of the Year (Victoria) award at the 2019 Aged & Community Services Australia National Summit, and also use the Umps Smart Home to support their home care clients.

The Umps Smart Home is being used by aged care providers across the country to provide their clients with the support they need during the Coronavirus pandemic.

In March, VMCH called their most vulnerable clients receiving support through a Home Care Package and offered them the Umps Smart Home. More than one-third of people immediately took up the technology. Valerie is one of these people - and received her Smart Home just three days after Umps received the referral.

If you're a home care provider looking to offer personal monitoring technology to clients, contact us on 1300 907 272 or at info@umpshealth.com.

Stay connected while in isolation.

We're proud to be working with Lively to offer immediate, free support packages to help older people stay safe, healthy and connected in their homes during periods of isolation.

Visit https://www.lively.org.au/covid-19/ for more information, or call the team on (03) 9010 4746.

Important update, friends! In partnership with Umps, we're pleased to be offering FREE support to help older people stay safe, healthy and connected in their homes during this time of isolation.

As we begin to feel the effects of COVID-19 and the measures required to contain it, our hearts go out to all those who are struggling. In particular, we at Lively are worrying about the many older people in our community who now find themselves more isolated than ever, as well as the young people who are losing their employment. We really want to help, which is why we're pleased to be launching an immediate support package for older people who are struggling or vulnerable during this time.

Specifically, we can offer:

* Help getting online to connect and communicate with others.
* Installation of technology to monitor health and safety in the home, and to alert family or caregivers of concerns.
* Social calls and check-ins, as well as virtual activities to relieve loneliness and isolation.
* Direct video or phone connection with GPs and other essential health services.
* Support picking up groceries, pharmacy items and running other errands.

We can initially offer support in Melbourne's inner-north, including the Cities of Melbourne, Yarra, Darebin, Whittlesea, Moreland and Maribyrnong. PLEASE SHARE this post to help get the word out to older people who may need help in these areas. We also hope to be able to further extend services in the near future, so please reach out to express your interest if you live outside these areas and need support. If we can't help, we'll do our best to connect you with folks who can.

Excitingly, this program will also mean more jobs for young people who find themselves out of work, so if you're a young person in that boat, stay tuned for further info on how to apply, or contact us through our page.

To discuss how we can help or to arrange immediate support, please call us on (03) 9070 4746. You can also fill out the form available at https://bit.ly/2wrcivN and we'll get in touch with you.

Let's all keep looking out for each other through this strange and challenging time!

The story behind Umps Health’s name.

In 2016, my grandpa was hospitalised for a fall at home. After he returned home, my family and I were surprised to see how much frailer he had become. We wanted to support him to continue living safely and independently in the home he’d been in for more than 60 years.

I looked to technology to support us, but found that he already had the industry standard in incident detection. A pendant, worn around the neck that was pressed in the case of an emergency. The problem with this is that we only find out about something after it’s happened. The kicker was that even when my grandpa fell, he wasn’t wearing it.

So, we set out to build something new. Something that didn’t rely on my grandpa to change the way he lived. Something that gave some insight into his wellbeing before he fell, and still respected his privacy and dignity. My grandpa was the first person to use our technology, we all call him Umps, and that’s where the name Umps Health comes from.
