🌟 Children’s Week 2025: Celebrating the Rights of Every Child!

This year, Children’s Week runs from 18–26 October 2025, under the powerful theme: “Everyone should know about Children’s Rights!”, inspired by Article 42 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

From national to local levels, communities across Australia are hosting many free events that shine a light on children’s achievements, creativity, and their right to be seen and heard. It’s a time to honour childhood, education, and well-being.

Here at Kids Dig Food we believe every child deserves the chance to feel safe, confident, and joyful. Our passion comes from knowing that we all benefit when our children see the world as a place of possibility ✨

🌿 Celebrating National Carers Week 2025: "You are one, know one, or will be one"

This week, from Sunday 12th to Saturday 18th October 2025, we honour the incredible contributions of Australia's 3 million unpaid carers. Whether you're currently in a caring role, know someone who is, or may become one in the future, this theme reminds us that caregiving is a shared experience that unites us all.

At Kids Dig Food, we recognise the dedication of parents, caregivers, and families who support children with diverse needs. Your resilience and love make a profound difference in the lives of those you care for.

How can you support a carer?

✸ Check in regularly – ask if they're OK.
✸ Offer to give them a break.
✸ Acknowledge and appreciate their hard work.
✸ Initiate support if they need more help.
✸ Encourage them to prioritise their self-care.

To learn more and find resources, visit carersweek.com.au

To all the carers out there: We see you, we appreciate you, and we thank you. Your unwavering support enriches our communities and strengthens the fabric of our society.

🎉 This October, we're celebrating ADHD Awareness Month with "The Many Faces of ADHD" - highlighting the diverse experiences of individuals with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects both children and adults, characterised by patterns of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that can impact daily life and development.

At Kids Dig Food, we support many children and families navigating ADHD, with or without a formal diagnosis. Our approach is rooted in neuro-affirming practices, recognising that each child's experience with ADHD is unique and valid. We aim to build understanding and collaboration with families to help optimise nutrition so that kids with ADHD can thrive.

🧡 Remember, ADHD is global. It's not about somebody else; it's about someone you know.

☀️ Happy Nourish Day ☀️

Last Thursday the team got together to celebrate our Nourish Day, except things looked a little different!

For the very first time, the team trialled doing a condensed version VIRTUALLY and it was a HUGE success.

While we love nothing more than getting together in-person, there are times when we need to be flexible in terms of travel and wellness (our team lives all over SE Qld and the GC).

The theme for Thursday's virtual get together was team and client well-being.

Here at Kids Dig Food, health, balance, and connection is at the core of everything we do 🧡

For our clients, this means feeling heard, valued, and cared for in every interaction.

For our team, it’s about fostering open communication, balance, and compassion so we can continue to show up wholeheartedly.

Together, we’re welcoming the final 3 months of 2025 with gratitude and care, and looking forward to all that’s ahead.

💛 Today is R U OK? day and the team over at R U OK? Want to remind us to Ask R U OK? any day, because life happens every day.

Whether it’s a friend, family member, partner, or colleague, the people around us go through life’s ups and downs every day. That’s why we want everyone to feel confident to check in with the people they care about and Ask R U OK? Any Day.

A CONVERSATION CAN CHANGE A LIFE

inspires and empowers everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and to start a conversation with those in their world who may be struggling with life.

R U OK? suggests using these four steps to have a conversation that could change a life:

🗣️ Ask "R U OK?"
👂 Listen
🙂 Encourage action (ie getting outside, seeking a professional's help, suggesting other helpful strategies)

Embracing body size diversity “means fostering environments where all individuals feel seen, respected, and valued for who they are, not just for how they look.”
Reference: https://lifestyle.sustainability-directory.com/term/body-size-diversity/

Unfortunately, our society has a very narrow ideal of “acceptable” body sizes and shapes that are considered desirable, which is not consistent with the natural variability of human bodies!

This shows up as:
✸ Diet culture,
✸ Body size discrimination and bullying,
✸ Weight stigma,
✸ Disordered relationships with food and body; and
✸ Eating disorders

All of which we know have a profound negative impact on mental health, physical health and wellbeing.

No wonder this often leads grown ups and kids to think that certain body shapes are more desirable, better looking or “healthier” than others.

Believing that human bodies should look a certain way has a profoundly negative impact on the way kids and adults think about our own bodies, regardless of our body shape or size.

How might our kids’ lives be improved if we support them to appreciate the amazing diversity of human bodies?

How might our lives be improved if we learned to understand this for ourselves?

We would love to know your thoughts!

If you need support with your child's nutrition, eating or relationship with food, we're here to help. Head to our website www.kidsdigfood.com.au and complete the booking form. One of our Client Care Officers will be in contact soon.

👣 Body Image and Eating Disorder Awareness Week 1 - 7 September - Unpacking the 'WHY'

This week the Butterfly Foundation () is raising awareness to expand understanding of how eating disorders develop and how to access better support.

According to the Butterfly Foundation, eating disorders are complex mental illnesses. There is never one cause of an eating disorder – an eating disorder develops due to a combination of biological, psychological and sociocultural factors.

Eating disorders are not always related to body image – while body dissatisfaction is one of the leading risk factors in developing an eating disorder, it is important to understand other causes and risk factors that may contribute. Eating disorders can also develop due to a range of other influences, including but not limited to:

✸ Trauma
✸ Sensory sensitivities
✸ Genetics
✸ Personality traits
✸ Culture
✸ Family history
✸ Co-occurring health conditions, such as diabetes, endometriosis and others.

No matter how the eating disorder developed, recovery is possible, and Butterfly Foundation is here to help.

If you need support for an eating disorder, please reach out to Butterfly Foundation - 8am-midnight, 7 days a week on 1800 334 673 or head to https://butterfly.org.au/get-support/helpline/

🌻 This month, we are exploring what Body Size Diversity is and what it means for our kids, and for us as parents and caregivers.

Here’s a fundamental truth: Humans, just like the rest of nature, come in all kinds of different shapes and sizes. Just like trees in a forest, we are tall, short, narrow, stout and every variation in between.

Embracing body size diversity and helping our kids understand the kaleidoscope of shapes and sizes that humans come in allows them to have a deep acceptance of their own body size and shape, and the bodies of others.

Join us this month as we discover more about body size diversity, and how understanding it can help our kids and humanity as a whole.

If you need support with your child's nutrition, eating or relationship with food, we're here to help. Head to our website www.kidsdigfood.com.au and complete the booking form. One of our Client Care Officers will be in contact soon.
