Coaxed pushing .. only really useful when intervention is involved in my experience .. women know what to do and HOW to PUSH/BIRTH their babies if they are left undisturbed, FEEL SAFE, Secure and unobserved ..
let the natural expulsive reflex take over and watch it happen !! Itโ€™s magic when witnessing a woman come into her power of โ€œI did itโ€ ๐Ÿ˜Š

POLL: Were you told when to push during labour?

In many settings, women are directed to push based on vaginal exams being determined at 10cm. Women are often told when to hold their breath, put their chin to their chest, and push with all their might, take a few deep breaths and push again. This is known as directed pushing, and it can lead to exhaustion, a drop in their babyโ€™s heart rate, perineal tearing and disruption to the mothers own instinctive rhythm โ€” all of which can impact the first breastfeed and early breastfeeds and the 3 Golden Hours.

In contrast, The Thompson Method encourages women to trust their bodyโ€™s natural instincts โ€” and push spontaneously and intuitively with no direction, changing position as she requires. This allows the baby to decent in a way that doesnโ€™t exhaust the mother, and maximizes the oxygen that baby receives and puts less stress on the perineal muscles and ligaments and results in less tearing.

So, weโ€™d love to knowโ€ฆ Were you told when to push during labour?

So important to know where to go when Birth doesnโ€™t go to plan !!!
Birth is mostly full of JOY but there is always the other side of the portal where families need support ๐Ÿ˜Š

Giving birth can be empowering - but it can also be overwhelming or upsetting, and many can experience injury or distress.

Everyoneโ€™s experience is unique to them, and no one who gives birth in Canberra should be left behind.

This yearโ€™s Birth Trauma Awareness week theme is โ€˜This is Birthโ€™. It recognises that every birth is different.

To mark the week, we have put together a shareable snapshot of whatโ€™s happening in Canberra now and in the future, and whatโ€™s changing to improve the experience of giving birth and manage birth related trauma.

Know someone whoโ€™s pregnant? Share this โ€“ it might be interesting or helpful for them.

I love to see Dads actively involved in welcoming their baby into the world - if it feels right for them - such a sacred joyous occasion !! Care providers when aware around the couple can bring fear into the space or encourage the human aspect and wonder of a baby making its transition from the womb to the outside world with love !!!

We need your help!

We have a growing waitlist for clothes packs for school aged children, a list we have never seen as big as we have this year. We hate to think of all the local children facing the cold snap without the essentials they need.

We need both boys and girls clothes in youth size 5 to 16 especially pants, tshirts, jumpers, pjs, jackets, new socks and un**es.

How can you help?

๐Ÿ‘š Do a cupboard clean out at home - pass on that jacket your child refuses to wear or pants they think are too blue!

๐Ÿ‘€ Spread the word - share our post in your networks, there are so many people who don't know about us and you can help us by hitting the share button or sending a message in your groups

โœ‹ Host a donation bin at your workplace, school or organisation! Get your team or communities involved to help local children -if we all bring one bag of clothes in or purchase a packet of socks, the impact we have is huge.

Together we can help local families in the moment they need it most. Every little bit counts and we need those little bits more urgently than we have before.

Details about our location and opening hours can be found here: https://roundaboutcanberra.org/donate-goods/
