Glenn Polley Shiatsu

Glenn Polley Shiatsu Creating a safe and nurturing space for deep relaxation, reconnection, and transformation through a shiatsu touch. Practices in Taradale and Castlemaine.

I have been both studying and practicing shiatsu since 1995, with experience in treating a broad range of people and conditions. I was part of the shiatsu teaching team on the Diploma of Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies at East West College from 2006-2016 and with The Collective Wellness Institute from 2018-2019. I have also run regular post-graduate shiatsu training workshops in Australia and New Zealand along with small study groups and tutorial sessions. I am currently a mentor on The Shiatsu Therapy Association of Australia's mentoring program. I am committed to continual learning and self reflection to further refine the service I offer. The main focus of my studies and practice is in understanding trauma and childhood attachment patterning and the long-term effects on the functioning of an individuals health and wellbeing. This understanding I have integrated into the fundamental approach I bring to my treatments, to firstly facilitate self awareness, and then the possibility to create a new paradigm. I see myself as an educator and mentor, working from the belief that we all as individuals 'know' within what we are needing. In most instances, we have not learnt to 'listen' to that deeper knowing, so treatments are about developing that relationship, to start inhabiting those parts of ourselves we have locked away and to ask the question; what is my body saying to me? All humans are unique, and as such every treatment will be somewhat different to 'meet' where the individual is in that particular moment. I am also very happy to discuss treatments and whether shiatsu may be the best staring point for where you are currently at.

Not often talked about widely in dietary circles but a more alkalising diet as suggested is definite something to be mindful of.
Although diet is not the only thing that creates an acidic environment. Stress and stress levels are crucial.

Regular shiatsu/bodywork is key in helping switch the nervous system off to allow the body to resolve some of the build up.

Still looking for my acid vs alkaline book from the 90’s!

According to Dr. Sebi, arthritis is not simply a result of aging, but a condition caused by excess acid and mucus in the joints. He believed that the bones need proper nutrition, specifically calcium, and that with the right environment, the body could regenerate itself. Ayurveda shares a similar perspective, focusing on alkalizing the body and nourishing it with the right foods to maintain joint health and prevent conditions like arthritis.

The key to managing arthritis is to reduce the acidic buildup in the body and focus on an alkaline diet that promotes healing. By incorporating alkaline-rich foods, like fruits and vegetables, and avoiding acid-forming foods, we can help restore balance and reduce inflammation in the joints. Ayurveda encourages practices such as mindful eating and regular movement to support joint health and reduce stiffness.

Arthritis doesn’t have to be a life sentence. By making small adjustments to your diet, reducing inflammation, and incorporating more plant-based foods, you can support your body’s healing process. Ayurveda teaches us that the body has the ability to regenerate when given the right tools. Embrace this wisdom to live a life free from joint pain and discomfort. 🌱💪

Now I can say it a sign of a healthy gut biome!
Yet I also know when it’s the result of over eating the wrong things and being out of balance.

Practices to keep you tuned in and ‘listening’ to your body are fundamental. No excuses!

💨 Did you know farting is actually a sign your gut is doing its job? ❗️

✅ When you eat fiber-rich foods like beans, lentils, and veggies, your gut bacteria break them down and release gas — proof that your microbiome is active and thriving. 🥦✨

👉 Passing gas 10–20 times a day is totally normal! It means your digestive system is working and your good bacteria are keeping you healthy.

So next time you feel embarrassed, remember: healthy gut = happy body. 💚

📚 Recent science backs this up: A 2024 review in Gut noted that gas production (hydrogen, methane, etc.) is “a significant indicator of gut health and microbial composition.

Another 2023 review on intestinal gas production highlights the role of various foods and gut bacteria in generating gas — showing it’s a normal metabolic product of a functioning microbiome.

One of the certainties in life is its uncertainty!

After going through a deep soul challenge over the last couple of months, the weekend offered up two profound gatherings that helped me drop into myself from another angle.

It has helped me access the deeper wisdom of how I need to be in the world.

All as I move towards my birthday in a weeks time; historically a point of deep pain and challenge.

So out of the blue a client wanted to give me a gift to express her gratitude which touched so deeply my heart given the journey I’m on.

A beautiful new vest and words 🥰

Further strengthes my deep trust in the universal flow and destiny ♥️

Often in our modern culture people are ‘switched on’ way too much meaning the body doesnt have time to restore.

The brain tells us ‘it’s normal’, yet our body is desperately seeking to resolve the state. If we can’t resolve stress by fight-flight we drop into a freeze state and then we disconnect brain and body.

The effect on the body is a contraction from the feet to the head; what I call the ‘neural activation chain’. The long term effects amongst many more are joint tension, digestive issues and neck and shoulder problems.

You can’t pull, crack or beat it out; it needs to feel safe before it can begin to let go.

So how do we do that?

After being through cancer, which was a real catalyst for positive change in my life leading me to shiatsu.
The sweet flavour is related to the stomach/spleen; to giving and receiving love. In an unhealthy state this becomes out of balance with either overconsumption or over giving, both ironically part of a cancer personality profile!
Sugar nowadays is an unhealthy way of giving ourselves love.

Could cutting sugar help lower cancer risk? 🍭⚖️

A study of over 100,000 adults found that those consuming more than 100 grams of added sugar daily had a 17% higher overall cancer risk - and for breast cancer, the risk climbed to 51%.

What’s striking is that this link remained strong even after accounting for weight gain, suggesting that excess sugar itself may influence inflammation and cell growth pathways tied to disease.

Top offenders included:
🥤 Sugary drinks
🍰 Desserts
🍦 Dairy-based sweets

While sugar isn’t the sole cause of cancer, these findings suggest that reducing added sugar could be a simple, powerful step toward better long-term health.
