Scientists have recently found that social stress changes your gut bacteria

Recent studies have found that stress can change microbiota in the gut. The most common form of stress that humans and other animals experience is social stress. This type of stress has been found to trigger or worsen mental illness in humans. “These findings suggest that bi-directional communication is occurring, with stress impacting the microbiota, and on the other hand, with some specific bacteria in turn impacting the response to stress,” said Dr. Benoit Chassaing, assistant professor in the Neuroscience Institute at Georgia State. This is an exciting possibility that builds on evidence that gut microbiota can regulate social behavior and is being investigated by Huhman and Chassaing.

Experts warn: Don't get the flu jab too early

RACGP President Dr Bastian Seidel warns that getting the flu vaccination too early may put us at serious risk. ‘Typically, flu season affects Australia from June to September, with the peak being August’, Dr Seidel said. He said that ‘recent evidence suggests that protection following flu vaccination may begin to wear off after three to four months, so timing of vaccination is critical'.
