In the aftermath of traumatic events, you might be feeling distressed, tearful and anxious, this is entirely normal and could linger for many days or even weeks.

Trauma can have far-reaching effects on the mind and body. It can cause people to have difficulty sleeping or to feel very anxious, especially about returning to the scene of a trauma.

It can be hard to know what to do or how to help others who may need it. Below you will find some practical ways to take care of yourself after a traumatic event has occurred 👇

Support is available through the Victims Support Scheme for the families of those who have lost their lives and those who have been affected by the violent acts at Bondi Beach on 14 December 2025.

The Victims Support Scheme provides:
• counselling to help victims recover from the psychological and emotional impacts of a crime
• financial assistance for immediate needs to help cover urgent health, safety or security expenses resulting from the violent crime
• financial assistance for economic loss to cover other expenses resulting from a violent crime
• assistance to pay for funeral expenses on behalf of family members of a homicide victim
• a recognition payment to acknowledge the violent crime.

Following the tragic incident at Bondi Beach, Lifeblood has issued urgent calls for O negative blood across NSW. Fewer than 7% of Australians have this blood type, and it’s critical in emergencies when a patient’s blood type is unknown.
