Memory cards ๐Ÿง โœจ
..ever play with these as a kid?
..well in the world of Speech Pathology, they're also powerful tools for enhancing children's cognitive and language abilities!

Memory card games can be a versatile and effective tool in Speech Pathology sessions for older children, promoting various aspects of cognitive, language, and social development, such as:

๐Ÿƒ Memory and Recall: remembering the location of specific images strengthens their memory skills.

๐Ÿ” Attention and Concentration: these kinds of games help kids improve their attention span and ability to stay focused on a task.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Language Development: each card can be a conversation starter! Speech pathologists tailor games to target specific language goals, helping kids expand their vocabulary and grasp language concepts in a fun, interactive way.

๐Ÿ’ก Problem-Solving Skills: memory cards encourage children to use their problem-solving skills and exercise their critical thinking.

๐Ÿ‘ซ Social Interaction: playing these games with a someone else allows the child to engage in conversation, follow directions, and take turns, all of which are important social skills.

Should my child be able to do that yet? ๐Ÿค”

Do you have any concerns about your child's development?

It is normal for parents to worry, and it is okay to check-in with a health professional if you have ANY concerns ๐Ÿ’™

โœจ Every child is unique, and their development happens at their own pace โ€“ and that's completely normal! โœจ

Our paediatric OT, Chelsea, shared some things you can consider:

๐Ÿ’ก If your child is taking longer to learn a new skill, (like using a spoon, coloring, or dressing), think about the why...

๐Ÿ’ฌ Talk to their educators or teachers... they see your child in action every day! They might be able to offer valuable insights into areas theyโ€™re finding tricky.

๐Ÿค Remember, you are the expert on your child. Trust your instincts! And if you feel they might benefit from extra support, weโ€™re here to help! ๐Ÿค—

We have an amazing team of therapists that can provide assessments and tailored strategies to help your little one thrive in their daily activities.

Are you worried about your baby's gross motor milestones? Or just not sure on when they are โ€œmeantโ€ to hit their milestones? What if your baby skipped right past one or is delayed moving onto the next skill?

The most important thing to remember is that every baby has their own unique developmental timeline and each baby needs a different amount of time in each phase of development ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿผ๐ŸŒŸ

The World Health Organisation (WHO) have collected data from around the world regarding the average time frames in which babies obtain these skills. This means that only 50% of infants will be able to do this milestone at the age listed and most will fall within the range:

๐Ÿฃ Lifting head on tummy: ~2 months (range 1-3 months)
๐Ÿฃ Rolling tummy to back: ~4 months (range 3-6.5 months)
๐Ÿฃ Rolling back to tummy: ~5 months (range 4-7.5 months)
๐Ÿฃ Sitting independently: ~5.9 months (range 3.8-9.2 months)
๐Ÿฃ Crawling: ~8.3 months (range 5.2-13.5 months)
๐Ÿฃ Standing: ~10 months (range 6.9-16.9 months)
๐Ÿฃ Walking: ~12 months (range 8-18 months)

Whatโ€™s important to remember is that these numbers are a guide! What they do show is that as the skills become more difficult, the length of time it takes a baby to learn them increases.

What can you do to help your babyโ€™s development?:
โœจ Tummy time - we recommend frequent but brief opportunities throughout the day starting from birth
โœจ Research also shows that reading books to babies is linked to faster development across all areas (gross, fine, speech and social development)

โ“ Do you have any concerns about your baby's development? It is important to remember that each baby is different and will develop at different rates and have their own unique developmental timeline, however it's okay to check-in with a health professional if you have any concerns ๐Ÿ’™ Early intervention can make a big difference!

You do not need a referral to see a Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist who will be able to review your babyโ€™s developmental milestones and advise further.

When teachers and therapists work together, incredible things can happen for students ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

Over the past fortnight, Darcey (SP) and Emma (OT) have been delivering professional development sessions at Morisset Public School, taking a deep dive into the world of Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy with teachers from across the area ๐Ÿ˜Š

The feedback has been fantastic, with many teachers sharing that they hadnโ€™t realised just how broad the scope of both disciplines can be...

And weโ€™re already seeing that increased understanding translate into more support opportunities for students at the school โœจ๐ŸŒˆ

Weโ€™re so proud of the way Darcey and Emma represented CT and made complex concepts feel practical, accessible and relevant for educators ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Fine motor skills in action! ๐Ÿงต

Threading beads to make a bracelet isnโ€™t just a fun craft, itโ€™s a great way to build hand strength, coordination, and precision ๐Ÿค๐Ÿผ

Activities like this help kids develop the skills they need for writing, buttoning clothes, and other everyday tasks.

๐Ÿก The best part? You donโ€™t need fancy equipment, just simple materials found at home!

Paediatric OT focuses on practical, play-based therapy that fits right into a childโ€™s routine.

It's normal for babies to be unhappy on their tummy as their heads are heavy and tummy time can be hard for them ๐Ÿฅต

Some tips to make it easier include:

1๏ธโƒฃ Change up the position. Not all tummy time has to be on the floor, it can also be on your lap, chest, or even an exercise ball!

2๏ธโƒฃ Change up the environment. Often babies are more settled in outdoor environments with trees and greenery, so trying tummy time outside can be really helpful!

3๏ธโƒฃ Start small. Babies have different levels of tolerance when it comes to tummy time, so you may have to start out with short efforts and that's okay!

Tummy time is crucial for babies' development, helping to strengthen their neck and shoulder muscles and promote motor skills โœจ

๐Ÿงฉ Stickers, stories, and speech skills....

Learning is best when it is fun โœจ

Learning through play makes all the difference!

In speech therapy, engaging activities like sticker matching and storytelling help children practice their communication skills in a fun and relaxed way.

By describing, naming, and organizing objects kids build vocabulary and strengthen their ability to form sentences.

Being outdoors adds another layer of engagement! ๐Ÿƒ The fresh air and movement-friendly setting help children stay focused and excited about learning.

A flexible, play-based approach makes therapy feel less like work and more like an adventure ๐ŸŒฟ

Looking for a child-led speech therapy approach?
