We are delighted to welcome Colorectal Surgeon, Dr Geoffrey Collins, to Newcastle Endoscopy Centre.

Dr Collins graduated from the University of Sydney Medical School in 2011 and completed General Surgery training across Western Sydney and regional NSW. He went on to undertake a research fellowship at the Westmead Institute for Medical Research before gaining two years’ experience as a Staff Specialist General Surgeon at Westmead Hospital.

He subsequently completed subspecialty training in Colorectal Surgery through the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ), undertaking accredited fellowships at John Hunter Hospital and Gold Coast University Hospital.

Dr Collins has a strong interest in minimally invasive colorectal surgery (laparoscopic and robotic), inflammatory bowel disease, and proctology. He also holds GESA accreditation and recertification in gastroscopy and colonoscopy. Geoff prides himself on clear, open communication and a friendly, empathetic approach to patient care.

We are pleased to welcome Dr Collins to our team of medical professionals and look forward to the exceptional care he will provide to our patients.

We are delighted to welcome Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist, Dr Josh McCarthy, to Newcastle Endoscopy Centre.

Dr McCarthy completed his medical degree at the University of Newcastle and undertook advanced gastroenterology training across Port Macquarie, Lismore, Sydney, and Newcastle, refining his skills in complex clinical environments.

He previously served as an Endoscopy Fellow at John Hunter Hospital, specialising in advanced endoscopic techniques. Dr McCarthy continues to serve as a staff specialist gastroenterologist and hepatologist at John Hunter Hospital, maintaining an active role in clinical practice and medical education.

Dr McCarthy’s clinical interests include:
🔹 Colorectal cancer screening
🔹 Advanced polyp resection
🔹 Quality improvement in endoscopy
🔹 Management of inflammatory bowel disease

Having lived in Newcastle for the past 20 years, he is dedicated to delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care to his local community. We are thrilled to welcome Dr McCarthy to our team and look forward to the exceptional care he will provide to our patients.

We are delighted to welcome Specialist Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist, Dr Dan Oliver, to Newcastle Endoscopy Centre.

Dr Oliver brings a strong commitment to clinical excellence, supported by his active involvement in clinical research, medical education and mentoring at Calvary Mater Newcastle.

His clinical interests include inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal cancer screening, liver disease and disorders of gut–brain interaction. With extensive experience diagnosing and managing a broad range of gastrointestinal conditions, Dr Oliver is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient‑centred care. He ensures patients feel heard, supported and valued throughout their healthcare journey.

Clinical Interests:
🔹Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
🔹Colorectal cancer screening
🔹Barrett’s oesophagus surveillance
🔹Liver disorders (hepatitis, cirrhosis, fatty liver)
🔹Disorders of gut–brain interaction, including IBS
🔹Gastrointestinal bleeding
