Leaps & Bounds have been supporting children, young adults, and families in the Lake Macquarie, Newcastle and Hunter regions for over 25 years. We support clients in the clinic, and in their homes, preschools, schools, and day programs. Our clients who are NDIS participants rely on the support that we provide to live the life that they choose in the fullest way possible - communicating, participating, keeping safe, and engaging in their world. We have always operated under the belief that everyone deserves a voice, and that every person matters.
We head out to support our clients in their own spaces because it's where they actually live and be. By seeing clients in their own environments, we can support their extended circle to understand how to help them when we're not there. We work to support families whose schedules of neverending appointments and therapies make it impossible to fit everything into the day. We work alongside teachers, educators, and support workers to ensure that our clients are fully supported by their team, and have the best possible chance of success.
Recent NDIS cuts have made it very difficult for us to continue to do this. The government have run a very well funded and successful campaign to make all NDIS Providers look like money hungry monsters. For most providers who are ethical and fair, this could not be further from the truth.
We do not want to be in a position where we are making these decisions that can affect someones life so drastically. Without support, our clients may lose access to therapy in their own spaces, or may lose choice and control over who they see and where their therapy takes place. These NDIS cuts will drive allied health therapists out of the industry, making it harder for people to find experienced, supportive therapists. These cuts will mean longer waitlists, less availability of appointments, and a loss of your choice over where you want your child's therapy to be.
