Another good reason to be vaccinated against shingles.

Patients aged 65 and over qualify for free vaccine. Phone reception on (03)5477 to book at one of our bulk-billed vaccination clinics.

The shingles vaccine could be an effective intervention for dementia, with a large "natural experiment" in Wales finding a substantial drop in dementia risk for those who received the vaccine.

Victoria’s Chief Health Officer (CHO) has issued an alert after one case of measles was confirmed in Greater Bendigo.

Exposure locations and times for the case are:

- 19 February 2025 - 8.30pm - 9.05pm - Lansell Square
- 19 February 2025 - 8.30pm - 9.05pm - Coles Lansell Square
- 20 February 2025 - 12.30pm - 1.05pm - Coles Bendigo
- 20 February 2025 - 4.30pm - 6.30pm - Epsom Village
- 20 February 2025 - 4.30pm - 5.45pm - Aldi Epsom
- 20 February 2025 - 5.10pm - 5.45pm - Woolworths Epsom Village
- 20 February 2025 - 5.20pm - 6.15pm - Chemist Warehouse Epsom
- 20 February 2025 - 5.50pm - 6.30pm - Epsom Village Pizza
- 24 February 2025 - 5.50am - 9.00am – Bendigo Health Emergency Department

The case also attended sites in metropolitan Melbourne.

Anyone at these sites during the specified dates and times should monitor for symptoms for 18 days after the last exposure.

If symptoms develop, please isolate and telephone your GP.

If you have not had two doses of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine or are unsure if you have, contact your GP.

Measles is a highly infectious viral illness that can lead to uncommon but serious complications, such as pneumonia and brain inflammation.

Symptoms of measles include fever, cough, sore or red eyes (conjunctivitis), runny nose, and feeling generally unwell, followed by a rash that usually starts on the face before spreading down the body.

An updated COVID vaccine is now available, covering the JN.1 subvariant as well as the newer and quaintly named FLiRT and FLuQE.

Boosters are currently recommended for patients aged between 18 and 74 who have not been vaccinated in the past year and patients aged 75 and over who have not been vaccinated in the previous 6 months. If you have had Covid recently you will not need a vaccine - your immunity will have been boosted naturally.

Ten years ago today Charlton Medical opened for business in our beautiful new rooms at East Wimmera Health Service here in Learmonth Street. It had been a long few years working out of the porta-cabins on the St Joseph’s School oval after the 2011 floods destroyed our old facility but we were finally there.
