💚Happy Father's Day to all our clients and those who are celebrating! It's a day to celebrate and appreciate the fathers who help shape and support us through all the stages of life. It's also a day to appreciate the people who stepped into the role of fatherhood and have taken on that responsibility.

We’re wrapping up Women’s Health Week with day 5️⃣! Today’s topic is ‘Be kind to your mind’.

Self-care is important, especially when it comes to mental health. Mental health plays a big part in how someone lives life. Positive mental health helps us feel good about ourselves, it helps us manage our emotions effectively and it helps build and maintain relationships. While negative mental health can affect the way we function effectively in everyday life, it can include conditions like anxiety, depression and other mental health disorders.

If you experience negative mental health, you are not alone;11% of women over the age of 65 experience mental distress and mental health conditions.

It’s important to voice what you are feeling and not hold it in. If you have any concerns about mental health, seeking support with a trained professional can help. You can also talk to your care partner, and they can link you with the right services and health care professionals. 🧘

While Women’s Health Week has come to an end, it’s important to live each day with everything we learned this week. This includes:

✅Getting regular health checks
💪Advocating for yourself in medical settings
💙Looking after your heart health
📣Sharing your stories around health experiences
🧘Prioritising your mental health

It’s time to put yourself first, always. 💚

Day 4️⃣ of Women’s Health Week continues with today’s topic of ‘Pain to power’.

Suffering in silence is commonplace with women. Now is the time to share your voice and experiences when it comes to health. Your experience could help another woman by inspiring and empowering them. 📣

Transform your pain into strength, we know that suffering in pain impacts your life negatively. More than 20% of people over 65 in Australia suffer from chronic pain. Women may face challenges when it comes to treatment and diagnosis because there is a false narrative that women are too emotional or dramatic when it comes to expressing pain, this narrative results in worse health outcomes for women.

Your experiences are real and valid. The more you openly talk about your health, the more the narrative changes, resulting in a different approach to treatments and pain management for women. 💪

If you are experiencing any type of pain, it is important that you tell your Care Partner. They can link you with the right services and health care professionals ensuring your pain is managed, and your quality of life is improved.

Day 3️⃣ of Women’s Health Week continues with today’s topic of ‘Heart Smart’. 💙

Women have big hearts and tend to care for other people in their life, overlooking their own health. Heart smart is about women prioritising their heart health, ensuring they live a long healthy life. This also includes a blood pressure and cholesterol check.

In Australia, coronary heart disease is the third largest disease that affects women over 65. Also, heart failure is the number one reason why women over 85 attend the hospital.

It’s important to get regular check-ups and talk to your doctor about any concerns you may have. Any preventative measures you take now, will benefit you in the future. 😀

A healthy heart is a happy heart, show it some love and look after it. 💚

Day2️⃣of Women’s Health Week continues with today’s topic of ‘Take the lead’.

It’s about taking control of your health and advocating for yourself. It’s important to have your voice heard and to feel seen when it comes to your health care. 🗣

We know that it can sometimes be hard to speak up for yourself. Two out of three women feel like their health concerns are dismissed by medical professionals, because of gender biases. If you feel like this happens to you, it's important to address your concerns with them about this, or find a medical professional that you are comfortable having an open conversation with.

Now is the time to ‘say yes to you’ and feel empowered to advocate for your health needs. Feeling confident and comfortable to speak up about what you are experiencing medically is important. Your voice is a powerful tool for advocating for yourself.💪

At Your Side we believe in listening to you and prioritising your health needs every day. We want you to live the best life possible, just like our client Cynthia.

🍃Spring is here and so is Women’s Health Week 2025. A week dedicated to the health and wellbeing of girls, women and gender-diverse people of all ages.

This year’s theme is ‘Say yes to you’, with each day focusing on a different health topic, which prioritises women’s health and wellbeing. We will highlight the topics each day this week. 😀

✅Day 1- Every check matters- there are many health checks that women need to routinely do, which are sometimes put on the backburner due to life’s demands. This is the time to prioritise those checks, including breast checks, cervical screenings, bowel cancer checks and more.

The average age of a breast cancer diagnosis in Australia is 60. It’s recommended that women get a breast cancer screening every two years between the age of 50-74. Routinely getting your checks puts you in control of your health 💪.

It’s important to say yes to you, not just this week but every week. Prioritising your medical checks can improve your health and wellbeing long-term.

At Your Side we believe in putting your health and wellbeing first every day. We want you to live the best life possible, just like our client Mitos.

It’s International Dog Day! A day to celebrate our furry friends.🐕

Dogs bring lots of joy, love and support to people and they are sometimes considered family. They offer companionship to anyone they bond with and show joy with their wagging tails.

Today is a day to bring awareness to the welfare of dogs, and responsible pet ownership. It's also a day to acknowledge the important role working dogs play in life, this includes guide dogs, therapy dogs, support dogs and rescue dogs. For those that need their assistance, life would be tricky without them. They really are man's best friend. 🐶

Our care consultants enjoy petting our clients’ four-legged friends, whenever they do a house visit. At Your Side we have a pet friendly office, all team members are welcome to bring along their dogs to work. All the dogs bring a playful energy to the office and they all enjoy a good belly rub!

Here are some pictures of our friendly dogs. 🐾

🌎Today our work placement students celebrated their culture with a ‘Cultural Melting Pot’ event for our Social Support group clients. Our students come from six different cultural backgrounds, spanning four continents! The clients who attended originate from 10 cultural backgrounds! It was a real cultural melting pot moment!

Both the students and clients turned our meeting room into a rich cultural space, sharing their culture with food, fun facts, their history and cultural clothes.😃

One of our clients, Joyce, mentioned that she has been to four cultural melting pot events and she enjoys them every time, but this one was her favourite because there was lots of interaction with each culture, and there was a variety of food which she found delicious.

Valeria, our student from Colombia taught everyone how to dance a traditional ‘cumbria’. Everyone got up and had a dance, swinging their arms and feet around 💃.

Annick, a student from China played a traditional song on the violin🎻. Everyone sung their hearts out when Nestor, our student from the Philippines made everyone karaoke to “Sweet Caroline” 🎤. Peter, a client who comes from England performed a traditional English poem that filled the room with laughter.

The cultural melting pot is a staple in the Social Support group calendar. Who knows what cultures will be celebrated next?! Watch this space!

If you're a student interested in an aged care work placement, contact us and our student coordinator will get in touch with you.
