And just like that, we are back. Dr Darren and I have had an amazing couple of weeks in Canada and Fiji with some much needed R&R. We are feeling refreshed and looking forward to seeing everyone back in the practice!

How is scoliosis diagnosed?

Scoliosis is diagnosed by a postural examination which includes the Adam’s Forward Bend Test. If there are signs of possible scoliosis then X-ray images of the spine are taken. This is the gold standard for diagnosing scoliosis.

The first hint that a scoliosis may be developing is the appearance of abnormal posture. This is a great image showing postural changes that may indicate a scoliosis.

Scoliosis, a sideways curvature of the spine (often shaped like an 'S'), is such an important topic due to its complicated and progressive nature.

Did you know that:
• 2-3% of children will develop some form of scoliosis
• The effects of scoliosis include: poor posture, shoulder hu***ng, muscle weakness, and pain. In rare cases scoliosis can lead to heart and lung problems.
