Mt Pleasant Acupuncture - Kylie Skillen

Mt Pleasant Acupuncture - Kylie Skillen Acupuncturist When Kylie’s not treating, she is a passionate gardener who enjoys growing her own food and living sustainably.

Meet Dr Kylie Skillen
Doctor of Acupuncture (BHsc)

Kylie’s complementary medicine journey started 30 years ago when her finance job sent her on a health retreat where she experienced a wide range of natural therapies. After this life changing experience, she began to study anything to do with natural medicine, with qualifications in massage, acupuncture, yoga teaching and yoga therapy. She was drawn to acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine after experiencing its positive effects with her own health and found it supported her body’s healing capacity and increased mental/physical well-being. Kylie’s acupuncture treatments are tailored to the individual and may include needling, cupping, moxibustion, Chinese herbal formulas, breath work and stretches based on your needs. Her special interests include acupuncture for fertility (pre-conception, IVF/IUI support); menopause and pregnancy related symptoms; stress and emotional issues (anxiety/depression); autoimmune disorders and pain management (acute & chronic). She is a mother, book reader, food lover and dog mum who enjoys wide open spaces on her rural property. Education and Certifications
Kylie has a Bachelor of Health Science (Acupuncture), is an accredited member of the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA), and is a registered practitioner under the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority (AHPRA).

🌿 Acupuncture & Cancer Care 🌿

Acupuncture can be a supportive addition for those undergoing cancer treatment. Evidence shows it may help with:
✨ Improving quality of life
✨ Reducing pain and fatigue
✨ Easing hot flashes
✨ Relieving nausea and vomiting

Some studies also suggest benefits for neuropathy and mood changes, though more research is needed.

Acupuncture is complementary to your existing treatment and has no known adverse effects.

🌿 World Mental Health Week | 5–13 October 🌿

This week is a reminder to open up the conversation about mental health. Talking openly helps break the stigma around anxiety and depression.

Acupuncture has been used for centuries to support mental well-being, with research showing it can help with anxiety, depression and nervous system regulation.

🔥 Hot off the press!
New research has found strong evidence supporting the use of acupuncture and electroacupuncture for both acute and chronic pain.

✨ The review shows acupuncture can:

Calm the central & peripheral nervous systems

Reduce inflammation

Help reverse negative pain patterns — all with minimal risk.

A big thank you to John McDonald, a leading figure in acupuncture research here in Australia, for his valuable contribution. 🙏

Why warm cooked foods? 🍲🔥

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, warm foods are recommended to support healthy digestion - especially when you’re trying to conceive or dealing with digestive issues.

Think of your stomach as a fire: when you add cold/raw food or drinks, it can weaken that fire, leaving you feeling tired, bloated, or with a sore stomach.

✨ Try swapping in more warm meals and drinks to see how your body feels.

Spring has sprung! 🌸☀️
As the days get warmer and brighter, it’s the perfect season to plant seeds — in the garden and in your own life. 🌱

Spring is a great time to pause and reflect:
✨ Have you started working on your health goals?
✨ Are you smashing them?
✨ Or is that niggling health issue still holding you back?

Now’s the time to invest in yourself and finish the year strong. 💪

🎉 Mt Pleasant Acupuncture turns TWO! 🎉
It feels like just yesterday we set out with a big dream of creating our own clinic and now here we are, celebrating 2 full, wonderful years.

Like any small business owner will tell you, the days are long and free time is rare, but I truly love what I do and am so grateful for the incredible support from all our patients across both clinics💛

A special shoutout to Mr. Mt Pleasant Acupuncture - for the washing, cleaning, mowing, IT support, meal prep (and the 100000 other things in between). I couldn’t do it without you 💖

Thank you to all my treasured clients and supporters – here’s to another year of helping our community feel their best! ✨
