*** Free Webinar – PMDD 15th February 6pm (AEDST) ***
I’m going to jump right into the topic, which for some may be a little uncomfortable, and that’s ok. Stay with me here, because there may be something here that you may have some personal experience with or know others that do.
Girls/women are taught PMS (premenstrual stress) is normal, that having a menstrual cycle will bring about irritability, mood swings, anxiety, or depression. Let’s say it may be common, let’s not say it’s normal.
For some girls, women and AFAB individuals, the PMS symptoms are bigger and louder, lasting up to 2 weeks each menstrual cycle:
- feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness
- depressed mood
- increased anxiety
- rage episodes
- suicidal thinking or behaviours
- impulsive behaviours
- thinking of leaving their partner, family, or job
For some women, they believe they are crazy, as when the period starts, regret and remorse sets in, and a more even, somewhat happier sense of self returns.
There is a reason for this, and it has a name. Globally, around 5% of women will experience a severe PMS called Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD).
PMDD is not a hormone imbalance, it is suggested to be the brain’s negative reaction to the natural change in hormone levels around ovulation (mid-cycle) through to bleeding.
The first step in manging PMDD is an accurate diagnosis. Currently, it takes on average 12 years in Australia for a woman to receive a correct diagnosis of PMDD! That is not ok, well, not with me.
If you would like to know more about PMDD, join the free 1hr webinar where you will learn:
- PMDD, it’s signs and symptoms.
- Misdiagnosis before correct diagnosis
- Why tracking your cycle is important
- What are the treatments that yield the best results
- What is the cure
There will also be:
Opportunities for you to work with me for 12 months in combined treatment plan, individual and small group counselling as well as short retreat experiences, to promote sustained change
Opportunities for therapists working with women (or the partners of women) living with PMDD, early detection, increase awareness and apply evidence-informed therapy
I waited 30 years for an accurate diagnosis. 12 years is too long. Join the webinar and let’s get talking about PMDD.
