Despite coping with COVID-19 we all need to maintain our regular health checks. Bowel Cancer
Awareness Month is a timely reminder for us all to be aware of any changes and especially for those aged
50 to 75 to screen for bowel cancer using a free, simple test at home. Around one in 23 Australians will
develop bowel cancer during their lifetime – one of the world’s highest rates. The good news is that if
found early 9 out of 10 cases of bowel cancer can be successfully treated.
If you’re aged between 50 and 75 use your free, simple test at home. If you have any concerns talk to
your GP or call the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program Infoline: 1800 118 868 Monday to Friday,
8.30am to 5.00pm. Let’s keep ourselves healthy through COVID-19 and beyond.

Victoria Road Medical Clinic now accepts online bookings using HotDoc for face to face and telehealth consultations. Please note, we are no longer using Health Engine for online bookings.

If you have any COVID-19 symptoms (e.g. fever, chills or symptoms of acute respiratory illness) please book a telehealth consultation.

26/04/2020

In response to COVID-19, the Federal Government has introduced additional temporary medicare items numbers for telehealth consultations.

Telehealth consultations may be suitable for repeat prescriptions and referrals, mental health support, chronic health care planning and general advice from your doctor to determine the appropriateness of face-to-face consultations. Scripts and referrals will be forwarded to a chemist or health provider of your choice.

We are taking every precaution to maintain safety during these unprecedented times. Following a telehealth consultation, patients with suspected COVID-19 symptoms will be referred to the GP led COVID-19 testing clinic (Mid North Respiratory Clinic) located at Clare Medical Centre.

As part of a two week testing blitz (16 - 30 April 2020), testing requirements for COVID-19 have been expanded to include ANY person with a fever or chills (in the absence of an alternative illness that explains these symptoms) or an acute respiratory infection (e.g. cough, sore throat, runny nose or shortness of breath).

Any patients with respiratory or any flu like symptoms are advised to telephone Victoria Road Medical Clinic on 8842 1000 to organise an appointment with one of our doctors.

To minimise the risk of person to person transmission, the initial assessment will be by telehealth. The doctor will also be able to access your health file to manage any other concerns you may have.

Any patients at high risk of a positive COVID-19 result will be referred to the Commonwealth Funded GP led COVID-19 testing clinic (Mid North Respiratory Clinic) at Clare Medical Centre.
