Ever seen one of these? 🔄

The Powerball (gyroscopic trainer) is a great tool we use in the *later stages* of hand and wrist rehab.

Why? Because it challenges more than just strength 👇

✔️ Proprioception (your joint position awareness)
✔️ Grip strength
✔️ Wrist stability
✔️ Endurance under load

As the speed increases, so does the resistance — meaning your muscles have to work harder to control movement in all directions. This makes it ideal for progressing rehab when you’re getting back to higher-level function, sport, or demanding hand use.

It’s not for early-stage rehab — but when the time is right, it’s a game changer for building control and resilience 💪

At HULC, we use tools like this to bridge the gap between basic rehab and real-world demands.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common causes of hand pain, stiffness, and reduced function — especially in the thumb, fingers, and wrist ✋

But management isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Splinting is just one piece of the puzzle. The right splint depends on:
✔️ Your daily demands
✔️ Your pain levels
✔️ Joint stability
✔️ What you need your hands to do day-to-day

From more rigid splints for support during flare-ups, to flexible options that allow movement and function — it’s about finding what works for you.

Alongside splinting, hand therapy may also include:
• Targeted exercises to maintain strength and mobility
• Joint protection strategies to reduce strain
• Activity modification (without giving up what you love)
• Pain management techniques

At HULC, we tailor treatment to your goals — helping you stay independent, functional, and in control of your symptoms.

Thumb side wrist pain? It could be De Quervain’s 👋
This condition affects the tendons at the base of the thumb and is often caused by repetitive wrist and thumb movements. Common symptoms include pain, tenderness, and swelling on the thumb side of the wrist.
The good news — many cases improve with splinting, exercises, and hand therapy.

✨ HULC CPD Education Session -Collaboration, Learning & Clinical Growth ✨

Our monthly CPD session was packed with brilliant clinical discussion and shared learning.

Presentations included;

👍 Yogita Shendge, OT and founder of YOUR THERAPIST in Maharashtra, Mumbai. With a Master’s in Musculoskeletal Conditions, extensive teaching experience across India, and a position on the Board of the Indian Society of Hand Therapy, Yogita shared brilliant insights into advanced fabrication techniques, material selection for complex deformities, and how metal splints can optimise both recovery and functional outcomes.

👍Our clinical therapist, Emily presented on thumb collateral ligament assessment and treatment, one of the more common ligament injuries of the hand, exploring mechanisms of injury, key clinical tests, and practical rehab strategies to guide early protection, graded loading, and functional progression.

👍Aiden followed with a great overview of 1st metacarpal fractures, covering fracture patterns, conservative vs surgical pathways, and rehab considerations.

👍To wrap up, the team reviewed current literature on Distal Radioulnar Joint (DRUJ) anatomy, imaging of common disorders, and injury classification, consolidating our understanding of how best to assess and manage DRUJ and TFCC injuries in practice.

A fantastic afternoon of shared expertise and clinical growth.
