***OASI Awareness Month***
Hi Bumpity Bumpers, we hope your week has been a good one 🙌 Today we wanted to highlight OASI (Obstetric A**l Sphincter Injury) Awareness Month 💚

What is an Obstetric A**l Sphincter Injury (OASI)?
It is a perineal tear that occurs during childbirth- they range from 1st to 4th degree, OASI focuses on the 3rd and 4th degree tear. The tear involves tearing to the a**l sphincter.

💚It is known that 3% of all vaginal birth in Australia will result in OASI.

💚4.6% of all first time time mums will end up with an OASI

They are the most common cause of a**l incontinence of women worldwide 🤯

So what factors can contribute to OASI?
Instrumental births, Ethnicity- Southern/Central Asia, Age- 25–29

They require surgical repair and a big focus is on ensuring that there is no excessive pressure in the bowels.

Good thing is, there are certain things we can do to help reduce this risk including perineal massage, hot compress and labour positions that optimise the pelvic floor 😉

If you are interested in prevention of OASI's, please know we are here to help!

***Class Update 2026***
Hi Bumpity Bumpers, we hope you all had a great long weekend 🙌 We can't believe January is nearly over!!

Today we wanted to highlight some changes we are making to our classes in 2026 😉

As we head into the new year of classes, we’re introducing a new booking system to help provide more consistency and security in our classes. From 2026, classes will be booked by the full term, with payment made up front (you will receive an invoice for claiming, once you have attended the class). This guarantees your place in the class for the entire term, so you can focus on your health and wellbeing without the stress of weekly bookings. Bookings must be made with admin- via phone or email-info@bumpitybump.com.au

There will be four terms across the year, aligned with school terms. Public holidays have been taken in consideration, and no classes will run on public holidays.

Term 1 commences Monday 2nd Feb until Thursday 2nd April. Monday classes will be an 8 week term, with Tues/Wed/Thursday consisting of a 9 week term.

We understand that life happens. If you are unwell and unable to attend a session, you’re welcome to make up the class at any point during that term, subject to availability. Please note that a minimum of four hours’ notice is still required, in line with our cancellation policy.

We hope you understand and can't wait to have you join us in classes for 2026 😍 We are raring to get going again 🙌

***Coccydynia (Tailbone pain)***
Hi Bumpity Bumpers, we hope you have had a great week 🙌 Today we wanted to cover a question requested by some of our patients 💚

Coccydynia A.K.A. (Tailbone pain) is pain in the tiny triangle bone at the base of the spine, common in pregnancy and postpartum mums with it being 5x more likely in women than men.

Common contributing factors:
💚Multiple births
💚Intervention births- forceps and vacuum
💚Coccyx shape
💚Short perineum
💚Previous tailbone injury
💚Certain birth positions
💚Overactive pelvic floor tone

What can worsen the pain?
Things that worsen the pain are prolonged sitting, constipation and repetitive movements (bending, lifting, stairs etc..). Which is hard to manage when you have a little newborn 😪

So what are some things that can help manage and treat pain?
Taking regular anti-inflammatories (always with a full tummy), use cushioning for sitting and utilise side lying as much as possible with pelvic support. Rolling in and out of bed, regular use of ice, stool softeners and last and most importantly Pelvic Health physiotherapy to help treat pelvic floor muscles and lumbar pelvic musculature 🙌

We know how this is literally a "pain in the butt"- it is awful but please we are here to help 😍And we can do things in birth prep to help prevent this!

***Muscle Recovery***Hi Bumpity Bumpers, welcome to another week in 2026!! We hope you are having a great start to 2026 ...
12/01/2026

***Muscle Recovery***
Hi Bumpity Bumpers, welcome to another week in 2026!! We hope you are having a great start to 2026 😍

We wanted to go through some muscle recovery timelines that we think are important for our patients to understand, especially if they are postnatal mums 🙌
This all links in to our return to exercise and 6 week check!

So why is this important?
Healing of muscles, tendons and ligaments take time. By understanding rough timelines of recovery it can help to give ourselves some grace in the return to activities 😁 This is particularly important for pelvic floor muscles as they don't get a break due to their position in the body 😉

So what is the muscle recovery timeline?
1-3 days= Bleeding
Day 3-7= Inflammation (bacteria, damaged cells, pathogens are removed from wound area)
Week 1-6= Proliferation (partial recovery of function and structure of the wound)
6 weeks to 2 years= Remodelling phase (maturation and repair of damaged muscle fibers)

So when we use the 6 week check as a marker, that is exactly what it is as things heal 🥰 Hence the type of birth you have doesn't mean you shouldn't have a pelvic floor assessment 😉

We hope this has given you a good eye opener into the things we as Pelvic Health Physio's are considering when doing our assessments 🥰 If you are ever unsure about your pelvic health or recovery it is worth a visit to see a Women's Health Physio 😉

***Habits for 2026!!***
Hi Bumpity Bumpers, we hope your week is going well 🙌 We wanted to start the year off well by talking about habits and some we are aiming for in 2026 😍

Habits are there to help us self regulate, NOT cause more stress!! We want 2026 the year for people to look after themselves and put their health as No 1 💚

So what sort of habits are we focusing on:
💚Starting they with gratitude
💚Journal writing- feels good to get those feelings off your chest!
💚 Keeping up hydration
💚Spending lots of quality time with family & friends
💚Doing daily pelvic floor exercises
💚 Focusing on overall health- mental, emotional and physical wellbeing
💚Making time for YOU- do something you enjoy!
💚Read more books
And last but not least, meditate- quieten that mind 😍🙌

What will focus on in 2026? Did we miss any key things, we would love to hear from you ?

***Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) ***
Hi Bumpity Bumpers, we hope your Monday is a good one 🙌 We are continuing on today with our Menopause series and covering all the symptoms and changes that can occur as a result of menopause 😉

GSM is caused by the dwindling levels of oestrogen and age. It affects all systems of the lower urinary tract and bowel areas. It unfortunately is due to oestrogen receptors being present in the vulvovaginal and lower urinary tract areas and lack of oestrogen to maintain its function 🥲

This loss of oestrogen affects overall function of tissues, changes connective tissue function and reduces blood flow to these areas.

So what are some common symptoms of GSM?
💚Vaginal dryness
💚Pain with s*xual in*******se
💚Urinary leakage
💚Vulva skin changes
💚Reduction in pelvic floor muscle tone
💚Urinary urgency
💚Painful wee's
💚Loss of cl****al stimulation....to name a few

The good news is that there is alot that YOU can do to help with GSM. It takes a multidisciplinary team approach to ensure that nothing is missed 😉🙌

Pelvic Health Physio's are part of this team with the aim around improving skin quality, improving pelvic floor muscle function and treating the whole person, as opposed to just the symptoms 🥰

So if you have been struggling with GSM or are concerned about experiencing these changes or just want to be proactive, please know we are here to help 🙌 We think prevention and early intervention is YOUR best gift to yourself 😍
