On 19 November we acknowledge the men in our homes, workplaces and communities. Many men continue to support others while saying very little about how they feel.

In Australia, su***de remains the leading cause of death for people aged 15 to 44. In 2024 there were 3,307 deaths by su***de and more than three quarters were men.
(Source: ABS and AIHW)

International Men’s Day is an opportunity for Supported Care to recognise these realities and to promote compassionate environments where men feel safe to slow down, speak openly and seek help when they need it.

Meaningful support can be simple.
1. Asking how someone is going
2. Creating time to listen without judgement
3. Reminding them they do not have to handle everything alone can help more than we realise.

It is OK to slow down. It is OK to say you are not OK. It is OK to ask for help.

If you or someone you know needs immediate support, contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 or MensLine Australia on 1300 78 99 78. In an emergency, call 000.

World Mental Health Day 2025 - A Reminder to Keep Going

Today is not just another date on the calendar.
It is a reminder to slow down, to listen, and to recognise that mental health is not a weakness to fix, but a part of being human to nurture.

Every one of us carries a story.
Some days it is light and full of laughter.
Other days it feels heavier than words can describe.
And for many, that weight is invisible, carried quietly while showing up, smiling, and pretending everything is fine.

So today, let us make space for honesty.
Let us make space for the people who keep going even when they are tired, anxious, grieving, or just trying to hold it all together.
Because that is strength.

1 in 5 Australians will experience a mental health condition at some point.
But that statistic is not just a number.
It represents our colleagues, our friends, our residents, our families, and sometimes, it represents us.

If you take anything from today, let it be this:

- Connection is medicine.
- Kindness is prevention.
- Listening is intervention.

You do not need the perfect words to help someone.
You just need to be there, to notice, to ask, and to stay.

And if you are the one struggling right now, please know that you are not a burden.
You are not alone.
There is help, there is hope, and there are people who genuinely care.

If you need to talk, reach out:

πŸ“ž Beyond Blue: 1300 22 4636 (24/7)
πŸ“ž Su***de Call Back Service: 1300 659 467 (24/7)

πŸ“ž 13YARN (for First Nations support): 13 92 76 (24/7)
πŸ“ž Kids Helpline: 1800 55 1800 (24/7)

If it is an emergency, please call 000.

πŸ’š Today, on World Mental Health Day, let us move beyond awareness.

Let us build communities where asking for help feels normal.
Where caring for mental health is not a campaign but a shared responsibility.
And where no one ever feels they have to walk alone.

Living with Brain Injury: Every Story Matters
More than 700,000 Australians live with the lasting effects of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). The impacts are not always visible. They can include changes in memory, mood, movement, communication and daily routines.

At Supported Care, we specialise in providing housing and support for people living with ABI across Brisbane and South East Queensland. Our homes are calm, structured and designed to help residents rebuild confidence and independence with support tailored to their goals.

It is a reminder that starting a conversation about how someone is really going should never be limited to just one day. Checking in with the people around us can happen anytime, and each time it matters.

πŸ’› In the workplace with colleagues
πŸ’› In the community with friends and neighbours
πŸ’› Within our own families and circles of care

Whether it is tomorrow, next week or months from now, asking β€œR U OK?” reminds people they are seen, heard and valued.
Together, we can make everyday conversations the ones that change lives.

We're working to make equity part of the way we do things every day. Not just written in policies, but reflected in how people experience work.

At Supported Care, our latest WGEA report shows a 3% gender pay gap and strong representation across our team. Still more to do, but proud of the direction we’re heading.

Read more:

While the national gap sits at 21.7%, Supported Care is doing things differently. Explore the bold moves we're making on equity, leadership, and inclusion in our latest WGEA report.
