💜 It’s Women’s Health Week! 💜

At Jessie McPherson, we are proud that women make up the majority of our hospital community. Every day they lead, care and shape healthcare for the better.

This week is a reminder that caring for others starts with caring for yourself. Women’s Health Week, led by Jean Hailes, shines a light on the importance of:

✨ Staying up to date with health checks
✨ Speaking up and making the most of appointments
✨ Protecting your heart health
✨ Addressing and managing pain
✨ Looking after your mental wellbeing

When women prioritise their health, they strengthen not only themselves but also the families, workplaces and communities around them.

💜 Say yes to you, this Women’s Health Week.

👩‍⚕️ Meet the Team: RN Jemima Daniel 👩‍⚕️

Jemima has been part of the Jessie McPherson family for the past 3 years, working as a Registered Nurse on 31 North. Known for her passion, curiosity, and commitment to quality care, Jemima brings fresh energy and forward-thinking to everything she does.

✨ A standout moment in Jemima’s career was being honoured with both the Star Award for Excellence and the Excellence in Innovation Award at the annual Jessie McPherson Awards Night. Standing before her colleagues during these moments was both proud and humbling - a reminder that hard work, dedication, and the courage to step outside your comfort zone can lead to meaningful change.

✨ Jemima shares that what made these achievements even more special was the incredible support she’s received throughout her journey at JMPH. Feeling encouraged to share ideas and explore new approaches has helped her grow both personally and professionally - and she’s passionate about continuing to find new ways to contribute.

💬 Jemima’s words of wisdom: "Always push yourself to do better and grow. Don’t be afraid to share your ideas openly - and most importantly, if you have a great team beside you, anything is possible."

We’re so proud to have Jemima as part of the 31 North team, and can’t wait to see where her innovation and passion take her next. 💙

🧠 Brain Injury Awareness Week 2025 (18–24 August) is here, and this year’s theme is “Invisible disabilities deserve visible change."

This week, we stand in solidarity with those living with brain injuries—many of whom are navigating an invisible disability with very real impacts.

Brain injuries can stem from events like car accidents, assaults, domestic violence, or drug overdoses. The wounds may heal, but long-term symptoms such as memory loss, mood changes, and cognitive challenges often remain unseen and misunderstood.

At Jessie McPherson Private Hospital, we recognise that brain injuries intersect with justice, homelessness, and domestic violence, and we believe everyone deserves to be seen, supported, and heard.

💬 Join us in raising awareness. Let’s work toward systems that understand, support, and provide visible change for invisible disabilities.

💝 Today, on International Day of the Midwife, we celebrate the incredible skill, compassion, and dedication of midwives everywhere, especially our own amazing team at Jessie McPherson Private Hospital. 💐

Midwives play a vital role in supporting women and families through some of life’s most meaningful moments. Their expert care - from clinical knowledge and decision-making to emotional reassurance and personalised support - leaves a lasting impact. 👩‍⚕️✨

This year’s theme is “Midwives: Critical in Every Crisis”. 🌍 As the world faces natural disasters, conflicts, and the ongoing effects of climate change, midwives remain trusted first responders - providing life-saving care and unwavering support even in the most challenging conditions. With minimal resources, they deliver essential services like safe births, postnatal care, contraception, and support for survivors of gender-based violence.

To all the midwives making a difference, thank you. 💛

Have you had a memorable experience with one of our midwives? We'd love to hear your story - share it in the comments below or tag us in your post. 💬👇

Today marks 110 years since the Gallipoli Campaign, where the courage and sacrifice of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps helped forge a lasting legacy.

On 25 April 1915, around 16,000 ANZAC soldiers landed under fire on the shores of Gallipoli, Türkiye. It was here that the Anzac legend was born — a story of courage, endurance, equality, and mateship that continues to shape our national identity.

Once referring only to those who served in the First World War, the meaning of ‘Anzac’ has evolved. Today, it honours all Australians who have served in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping missions, and remains deeply meaningful in today's multicultural society.

At Jessie McPherson Private Hospital, we are proud to support and care for our DVA patients, honouring their service every day with dignity and compassion.

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.”

🟠 April Falls Month | Falls Are Preventable 🟠

Falls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths in Australia and one of the most common reasons older adults are admitted to hospital. Each year, 30% of adults over 65 will experience a fall — and around 200,000 are serious enough to require hospitalisation.

At Jessie McPherson Private Hospital, we’re committed to supporting safer ageing. With on-site Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and Allied Health teams, we work closely with our patients to help reduce fall risks both during and after their hospital stay.

Falls can happen to anyone, but the good news is that many risk factors — like balance, vision, medications, and home hazards — are modifiable. 💪 Evidence shows that regular strength and balance exercises can reduce falls by up to 40%.

Preventative care works — with the right support, education, and interventions, we can reduce harm and help older adults live more safely and independently.

👩‍⚕️ Meet the Team: Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) Naomi Dent 👩‍⚕️

With 36 years of nursing experience, Naomi has been an integral part of the team at Jessie McPherson Private Hospital (JMPH) for 25 of those years. Her journey started on 51 South, and over the years, she combined multiple roles, including ANUM, ADON and pre-admission nursing, gaining invaluable experience in patient-centered care.

✨ A career highlight for Naomi has been her appointment as the NUM of the newly established surgical/day ward on 31 North. Building a dedicated team of nurses and fostering an environment of education, growth, and compassion has been incredibly rewarding for her. The respect, camaraderie, and dedication shared by the team reflects the passion nurses have for their community, and Naomi feels both proud and privileged to be a part of it.

✨ As a leader, Naomi’s focus is on advocacy, education, and developing future generations of nurses. She finds great joy in helping patients, families, and communities while nurturing the next wave of compassionate healthcare professionals.

We are so lucky to have Naomi’s leadership and dedication guiding us every day! 💙
