Metro Pain Research Institute

Our physicians are committed to professional development, education and collaborations within the international pain community. As such, we have developed our own independent research department to monitor our treatment outcomes and benchmark our performance. Compilations of these results have been published in leading industry peer-reviewed publications such as Spine, Neuromodulation, Medical Journal of Australia, Australian Family Physician and Pain Medicine. Moreover, we frequently present our latest research findings at key international conferences. Current research efforts are focusing on improving spinal injection and radiofrequency neurotomy techniques, assessing patient outcomes after neuromodulation and other interventional pain management procedures and investigating classifications and referral patterns of pain. Many of these research programs are run in collaboration with higher education and allied health facilities. In collaboration with other specialists in our field, the experienced physicians of MSC have run intensive workshops and training sessions. Furthermore, we are training three medically qualified doctors in the field of Pain Management, and have supervised a PhD and two Honour students in projects relating to Pain Management. Our in-house medical research doctoral personnel manages a number of international multi-centre randomised controlled clinical trials for conditions such as low back pain, sciatica and degenerative disc disorders. Together, these efforts clearly demonstrates our ongoing commitment to advancing and applying current scientific knowledge related to pain and disseminating relevant information to our patients, colleagues, and the public. Our Story

Monash Clinical Research (MCR) runs clinical studies to help find new and improved treatments for patients suffering from chronic pain. MCR also monitors the treatment outcomes for patients who have undergone established interventional treatments at Metro Pain Group (MPG) to ensure the treatments continue to be successful.

The data obtained from the research conducted is analysed in depth and the results disseminated through the publication of articles in high quality medical/scientific journals, and presentations delivered by the MPG doctors at national and international conferences. This enables other researchers and doctors around the world to review and learn from the discoveries made. Our doctors and staff take pride in being at the forefront of the latest advances in treatments, techniques and technology.
