Orthognathic surgery, also known as corrective jaw surgery, is a procedure performed to realign the jaws where there is significant misalignment affecting function, speech, or facial balance. 🦷

This surgical treatment may be considered when orthodontics alone cannot correct jaw positioning. It is typically performed by an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon and may involve collaboration with an orthodontist as part of a coordinated care plan.

🌟 We are pleased to welcome Dr Tanya Kowalski to Monash House Private Hospital.

Dr Kowalski is a Melbourne-based General Ophthalmologist with subspecialty interests in Cataract and Oculoplastic Surgery. She manages a wide range of eye conditions, including anterior segment disorders, cataracts, and eyelid pathology.

🎓 Dr Kowalski completed her Bachelor of Biomedicine (BBiomed) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) at the University of Melbourne, followed by specialist training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. She undertook additional subspecialty training in oculoplastic surgery in Cardiff, UK, and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO).

In addition to her private practice, Dr Kowalski maintains a public appointment at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, where she is actively involved in teaching and mentoring.

We are delighted to have Dr Kowalski join the team at Monash House.

Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) is a procedure used to restore proper tear drainage by creating a new pathway from the tear sac into the nasal cavity - bypassing the blockage.

During the procedure, the surgeon carefully opens the tear sac and connects it to the inside of the nose. A tiny stent is often placed to keep the new passage open while it heals. The goal? To reduce excessive tearing and the discomfort of chronic tear duct blockages.

🌟 We’re pleased to welcome Assoc Prof Ehud Zamir to Monash House Private Hospital. Assoc Prof Zamir has extensive experience in diagnosing and managing inflammatory eye diseases, including uveitis and scleritis. He also provides care in general ophthalmology, medical retina, and cataract surgery.

🎓 Assoc Prof Ehud Zamir completed his medical degree at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and undertook specialist ophthalmology training at Hadassah-Hebrew University Hospital. He further advanced his expertise with a two-year fellowship in uveitis and ophthalmic pathology at the Doheny Eye Institute in Los Angeles. After relocating to Australia in 2003, he became a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO).

Assoc Prof Zamir’s practice is guided by a patient-centred approach and evidence-based care, in line with his extensive contributions to medical education and research in ocular immunology.

Ptosis repair is a surgical procedure designed to correct drooping eyelids by tightening or repositioning the muscles responsible for lifting the upper eyelid. This procedure can improve vision by clearing the line of sight while also enhancing facial symmetry.

Ptosis can occur due to aging, congenital conditions or neurological factors and repair may be recommended when the eyelid obstructs vision or causes eye strain.

Dr. Janice Chua is a highly respected and skilled comprehensive ophthalmologist, renowned for her expertise in advanced cataract surgery and the use of premium intraocular lenses, including Multifocal and Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) implants.

She provides exceptional care for a wide range of eye conditions, including glaucoma management, pterygium surgery, neuro-ophthalmology disorders, retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), as well as strabismus and paediatric ophthalmology.
