How does acupuncture affect the nervous system of the human body and what can a client and acupuncturist feel in effective treatment?
'When we are applying a needle to the body we are tapping into the sensory nervous system. There are two things that control the body. The central nervous system and the endocrine system, which interact with each other largely in the brain. By putting a needle in we are trying to access the central nervous system to create a change. The way we test this is to palpate the body from top to toe. If we are able to create a global change in the body by making changes to multiple areas at the same time we know we have tapped into the central nervous system. What we are trying to do with acupuncture is get your bodies own regulatory mechanisms to activate and regulate your body better. The changes we feel when palpating tell us this is what is happening. That is all we need to do.'
