🧧 Happy Lunar New Year 🐎

As we welcome the Year of the Horse, Shawn (our Senior receptionist) and Dr Hwuei Lim (our Principal GP/Owner) are home in Singapore and Malaysia respectively to celebrate with family - a time for reconnection, reflection and renewal.

The Horse symbolises strength, resilience and forward momentum, and the colour red carries wishes for health and good fortune.

You’ll spot touches of red around the clinic as we celebrate alongside our community ❤️

Wishing everyone a joyful and prosperous year ahead ✨

Let's continue to keep things simple.

Eating well doesn’t need to be complicated - and neither does moving more. 🌿

Simple, regular meals and small, everyday movement (like walking a little more or taking the scenic route) can make a powerful difference to your energy, mood, and long-term health.

If you’d like support to make these habits sustainable, Michelle (our dietitian) and our GPs are here to help you create a sustainable plan that fits your life - not adds pressure.

📅 Appointments available - book online or call the clinic.

We are starting the year with a clear focus on balance and clarity.

Behind the scenes, that means strengthening our foundations, refining how we work, and continuing to reflect and improve - so we can care for our patients thoughtfully and sustainably.

As always, we’ll keep doing our best, together. 🤍

As the year draws to a close, we pause to reflect - on a year of change, growth and community.

With demolition works beginning next door, we recently said goodbye to our wall and mural (photo) a small but meaningful marker of transition as we step into the next chapter together.

In moments when the world feels unsettled, we hold onto hope - that kindness, care and connection continue to guide us, and that we can all live together peacefully.

Thank you for being part of our community this year. We wish you a safe and peaceful festive season and look forward to caring for you again in the new year. 🤍

Finding balance is rarely about standing still 💫

Thank you to our wonderful community of specialists and allied health professionals who joined us at our end-of-November networking evening.

Together, we are learning how to balance:
⚖️ time and care
⚖️ evidence and empathy
⚖️ supporting our patients and looking after ourselves

We are so grateful for the way you partner with us to care for our shared patients - it truly takes a village, and we are proud to be in this with you.

Let’s Talk Protein This Movember — with Dietitian Michelle Harris

We’re surrounded by protein bars, shakes, and even protein water… but do most of us actually need more protein?

For many healthy adults, the answer is no. Most people already meet their needs (around 0.6–1.0g/kg/day) by eating a balanced diet.

Think yoghurt or eggs at breakfast, chicken or chickpeas at lunch, and meat, fish, tofu or tempeh at dinner - you’re likely already hitting the mark.

Protein needs can be higher if you’re older, pregnant, breastfeeding, exercising heavily, or living with chronic illness. But for most people, more isn’t always better. Overdoing supplements or ultra-processed high-protein snacks can crowd out foods rich in fibre, vitamins, and antioxidants.

The key? Balance. Include a protein source at every meal, choose real foods most of the time, and keep your plate colourful.

For personalised advice, you can book with Michelle () at The Crane GP - rebates may apply with a GP Chronic Management Plan.

As Movember comes to a close, we want to thank everyone who took time for their health this month.

Men’s Health Checks don’t stop in November - you can book in anytime to chat with your GP about nutrition, prevention, protein needs, and long-term wellbeing.

A big thank you to our Movember sponsors: Seedling Family Nutrition, Misty Gully, Provans Timber & Hardware, and SHAPE Physio.

This Movember, we’re focusing on men’s health - not just check-ups, but the quiet rituals that help keep balance in daily life.

While picking up our Movember raffle prize, Dean - who’s often behind the scenes at The Crane GP - stumbled on something unexpected: stories about BBQ, connection, and the small sparks that make a big difference. Dean writes:

In a warehouse full of spices and gear, a casual chat turned into something deeper. Staff spoke about blokes who first picked up BBQ to unwind after long shifts… and found it became their anchor.

One veteran shared how slow cooking helped after a PTSD diagnosis: “No rush, just fire, wood smoke, and patience. It pulls you out of your head.” It made sense - BBQ can be its own form of mindfulness.

Someone said, “BBQ must help with depression.” “It’s the delayed gratification,” came the reply.

In a world obsessed with instant everything, tending a smoker forces you to slow down. You start with something rough, give it time and care, and end with something transformed. It’s repair in action.

Hands-on, ritual hobbies lower stress, quiet the mind, and build confidence through small wins. Around a BBQ, conversations flow without pressure - sometimes the hardest topics become easier over a rack of ribs.

Movember reminds us that 1 in 5 men experience a mental health challenge each year, and men’s su***de rates remain three times higher. Small rituals like BBQ help men reconnect, breathe, and find purpose in the process.

So this Movember, when you come in for your Men’s Health Check, you’ll go into the draw for our .gully BBQ pack. Because sometimes, the best medicine really does start with a spark. 🔥

Movember - a few words from our Dr Oliver Hughes:

Earlier this year, I spent a week sailing around the Whitsundays with a group of mates. Between whale watching, sunsets, and some questionable karaoke, I was reminded how quickly life moves - and how often we forget to look after the most important engine we have: our own health.

This Movember, take a moment to check in - with yourself and your mates. Talk to your GP about your heart, prostate & testicular health, skin, and mental wellbeing.

We have teamed up with our local mates at .gully ($200 hamper) , ($100 voucher), (1 hour free tailored consult), (30 mins free physio session) and ($50 voucher) to say thanks for taking charge of your health - every man who books an appointment this November will go into our Movember Raffle Draw to win these amazing prizes!

Book your Men's Health Check now at thecranegp.com.au or give our friendly team a call on 90883258.

🩺 Why We Don't Bulk Bill Everyone

From 1 November 2025, the government is encouraging all GP clinics to bulk bill. But here’s why we won’t be going down that path.

Instead of fixing the root issue - low Medicare rebates - a new incentive program offers a small top-up ($20–$30 per visit). It’s a short-term fix, not a long-term solution.

To make universal bulk billing work financially, clinics must rush through consults in 6 minutes. That’s not medicine. That’s churn. And it leads to worse outcomes for everyone.

We’re not here for quick fixes.
We’re here for your long-term health.
That means time, follow-up, and real care.

Primum non nocere - First, do no harm.
6-minute medicine is harm.

Thank you for supporting thoughtful, patient-centred care. 🙏
