This year marks ten years of Homestyle Aged Care’s proud sponsorship supporting the School of Nursing and Midwifery Student Awards at Deakin University. The annual Student Awards formally recognises students achievements across all Deakin campuses and acknowledges outstanding efforts, dedication, academic performance and significant commitment to the University and wider community.

The Awards were held on April 9th with Homestyle CEO Tim Humphries presenting two students from each Campus their awards. The 2025 winners are Annika Singh from the Burwood Campus and Mikala Zahra from the Waterfront Campus. Tim had a chance to meet with and speak to both winners, who were extremely grateful and appreciative to receive their award. Both recipients are third year students with their award presented in recognition of their excellence and commitment to quality care of an older person in the unit HNN318: Care of an Older Person.

Homestyle looks forward to our continued support of the Deakin Awards next year, and being able to acknowledge the students hard work and promote Aged Care in a positive light.

Langford Grange recently celebrated Cultural Diversity Week with the residents and staff enjoying a delicious multicultural lunch. Onsite chef Tina and her team prepared and cooked an array of food which included Biryani, Curry, Lamb Kofta, Malaysian Beef, Roti Bread and Dips. To conclude the day’s festivities, staff paraded in their traditional clothing before the residents were treated with a live Bollywood Belly Dancer Show.

On 10th March, Dorothy Jones from Langford Grange celebrated her 100th birthday. πŸ’―πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‚πŸΎπŸ₯‚πŸŽˆπŸŽŠ

Dorothy enjoyed celebrating her special birthday with a small gathering of family and friends last weekend, and felt quite overwhelmed receiving a letter from the King of England congratulating her on her 100th.

Born in Paddock Wood, Kent, England in 1925, Dorothy grew up in Britain, and despite the harsh realities of living during wartime, her childhood was filled with simple pleasures, strong family bonds, and a love for the outdoors.

During World War II, Dorothy worked in the infectious ward of a local hospital, caring for children with diseases like diphtheria and scarlet fever. It was in 1945 that fate brought her together with Frederick (Fred) Jones, a young British Commando, and after a whirlwind romance, they married on Christmas Eve 1945.

In 1956, Dorothy and Fred emigrated to Australia with their daughter, building a new life and establishing a successful bridge-building company in Victoria. Dorothy managed the finances while Fred built bridges. Their family grew to include two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and Dorothy remains the heart of their family, passing down traditions and sharing her stories of resilience and love.

As Dorothy reaches this extraordinary milestone, she continues to inspire with her sharp wit, warm spirit, and endless curiosity. She still keeps up with the latest news and gossip, reading her favourite magazines Women”s Day and New Idea, still without the need for glasses!

Happy Birthday Dorothy from all of us at Homestyle Aged Care!

Love was in the air at Langford Grange as residents came together to celebrate Valentine's Day. β€οΈπŸ’–πŸ’“πŸ’•πŸ’—

The residents had a wonderful time getting creative, from creating origami mobiles to decorating Valentine's Day biscuits, all activities were done with love and joy. Every masterpiece was a reminder that love knows no bounds or age.

Laughter, friendship and fun including a chocolate egg and spoon race made for a wonderful day! The afternoon was complete with delicious food platters and champagne for afternoon tea. 🍾πŸ₯‚πŸ§πŸ«Ά
