Have you heard of a mandala before? Mandalas were first used in therapy by Carl Jung, who found that the act of drawing mandalas had a calming effect on patients while also facilitating psychic integration - the process of harmonising and balancing one's mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects, to achieve a state of inner unity.

Mandala drawing was viewed as a creative means of traumatic disclosure that would symbolically organise and integrate emotions and experiences. Colouring mandalas help activate both analytical and creative parts of the brain, increase problem-solving skills, refine cognitive skills and foster inner strength. It's unsurprising that they are often used for meditation.

📆 Today is World Drowning Prevention Day 🌊

According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 236,000 people drown every year and drowning is among the 10 leading causes of death for children aged 5-14 years.

Swimming may not be top of mind during an Australian winter, but it is important to bring awareness to drowning throughout the year and consider ways to prevent injury or death when around water.

For more information visit 💻 https://www.who.int/campaigns/world-drowning-prevention-day/2023 or visit your local pool’s website for 🏊🏼‍♀️ swimming lesson information.

Today marks the beginning of NAIDOC Week, a time to reflect on and celebrate all First Peoples of the lands in which we live. NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people. It’s held each year during the first week of July and is an important annual event where everyone’s invited to join in the celebrations. This year the 2023 theme is For Our Elders.
