I often use humour in therapy. Some clients really respond to it… others not so much.

When I read this quote, it reminded me of the many clients who have only ever laid their authentic selves bare within the therapy room.

I think about the tears, the apprehension, the shame… and then the slow, courageous embrace of who they truly are.

To witness that evolution is a privilege.
To know my season in someone’s life has come to an end because they’ve found their footing — that’s transformative.

But the credit belongs entirely to our clients.

They do the work.
They are braver than they realise.
Stronger than they ever imagined.

Over the years, they’ve taught me things no textbook ever could — about resilience, about vulnerability, about the extraordinary nature of being human.

And about the quiet power of discovering that your truest self is already enough.

really summed it up nicely.
No notes.

Being a female therapist is the easy part, but a woman in business is another story. Despite so many of our graduates pursuing private practice, our universities do not provide us the training to navigate this part of our industry.

As we approach our sixth year in business, I reflect on the challenges and joys of growing DKM into what it is today; a warm, inviting, nurturing space for clinicians and clients. It hasn’t been a perfect run and we have more goals to aspire to, but I am proud of what we have built so far.

DKM Psychology is proudly female founded and run.

Happy International Women’s Day.

What does a psychologist actually do?

It’s not just nodding and saying “how does that make you feel?”

A psychologist is trained to understand how your thoughts, emotions, behaviours, nervous system and life experiences all interact. We help you:

• Make sense of patterns that keep repeating
• Understand why you react the way you do
• Build practical skills to regulate emotions
• Process trauma safely (e.g., EMDR, schema-informed work)
• Clarify diagnoses through comprehensive assessments
• Strengthen relationships — including the one you have with yourself

At DKM, we work across the lifespan — from little people finding their feet, to adults untangling long-held stories.

Therapy isn’t about “fixing” you.
It’s about understanding you — and helping you move forward with more clarity, choice and confidence.

Curious about whether psychology support might be helpful for you or your child? We’re here when you’re ready.

Our practice values ongoing education. Yesterday we had Jamilla from provide training to our provisional psychologists on the art of writing in plain language.

This knowledge will inform a revision of our templates to improve the functionality of our assessment reports. By making these informed changes we hope to support families, educators, and individual clients in understanding their needs and advocating for supports.

This type of training is only one way we support the next generation of psychologists! If you are looking for a field placement in the second half of 2026 we still have vacancy. Reach out by emailing enquire@drkimm.com

Writing an emotion down — and labelling it — helps move it out of your head and onto the page.
It gives your nervous system a pause.
Your brain a container.
And you a little more space.

Big change rarely comes from one breakthrough moment.
It’s built through small, healthy, repeatable skills — practiced consistently — that quietly reshape how you cope, reflect, and respond.

You don’t need to fix everything today.
Just start by naming what’s here.

✨give it a go, try writing one word tonight.

Recent media coverage around Brooklyn Beckham and the reported rupture in his relationship with his parents has sparked a lot of commentary — but beneath the headlines is something many people quietly recognise.

Major life transitions often expose long-standing family dynamics.

Not because anyone is “doing it wrong,” but because change asks old systems to stretch.

Healthy boundaries aren’t about cutting people off.
They’re about:
• recognising emotional limits
• redefining roles as life changes
• choosing what you carry forward — and what you don’t

You can deeply care about your family and decide what feels sustainable for you now.

🎧 Dr Kim recently spoke on about boundaries, family expectations, and mental health during big transitions — including (but not limited to) weddings.

The conversation is relevant for anyone navigating:
– guilt when asserting needs
– pressure to “keep everyone happy”
– the emotional load of change

Because boundaries aren’t rejection.
They’re information.

Watching Erin Doherty thank therapists in her acceptance speech, and speak about the honour of playing one, was a quietly powerful moment.

It’s a reminder that therapy is never a one-way process.
While therapists hold space, guide, and reflect, clients shape us too.

Every story trusted, every risk taken, every moment of honesty leaves its mark.

Therapists grow alongside the people they work with.

The learning is mutual.

The impact goes both ways.

With gratitude for the clients who allow us into their worlds, and for the privilege of walking part of the journey together.

No clinician is THAT good…

Diagnostic assessments should take time.

Not because they’re inefficient — but because PEOPLE ARE COMPLEX.

Quality assessment often requires multiple sessions to allow for:
• observation across different states and contexts
• rapport and psychological safety to reduce masking
• understanding strengths and support needs
• integration of developmental history and lived experience
• careful synthesis of information rather than reliance on a single tool

Taking time supports accuracy, fairness, and meaningful outcomes — particularly in neurodiversity-affirming practice.

If you’re considering an assessment or want to understand the process, contact the practice or book a consultation via our website.
