My first year was hard in ways I didn’t expect.

The sessions themselves? I loved them. The everything-else? I was drowning.

No rebooking system. No idea what to charge. No community. Just me, a table, and a lot of imposter syndrome.

If I could go back, I wouldn’t just give myself more confidence. I’d give myself a structure. A community. Someone who’d already walked the path.

What would you tell yourself in your first year?

Drop it below. I read every single one. 💚

I know it feels like the solution. Gaps in your calendar are stressful. So you drop the price, fill the spot, problem solved.
Except it’s not.

Because now you’ve told the algorithm of your own business that discounting is how you operate. And it compounds fast.

Discount clients don’t rebook at full price. They wait for the next deal. They refer friends who also expect a deal. And you end up working more hours for less money wondering why you’re so exhausted.

A full calendar at the wrong price is still a failing business.

The fix isn’t discounting. It’s learning how to attract clients who already value what you do before they even get on your table.

That’s a marketing problem. Not a pricing problem.
And it’s exactly what I help massage therapists solve inside the Massage Advisory Membership.

This one took me a long time to understand.

I kept thinking I was burnt out because I needed more rest. More time off. More self-care.
So I’d take a weekend. Feel okay for a week. Then crash again.

It wasn’t until I changed the structure of my practice - how I scheduled, what I said yes to, how I priced - that the burnout actually lifted.

Rest heals. Structure prevents.

If you’re in the cycle, the answer isn’t a day off. It’s a different design.

Let me describe two therapists I know.

Both qualified the same year. Both genuinely talented. Both care deeply about their clients.

One checks their calendar every morning hoping it’s full. It rarely is.
One has a waitlist and turned away her first client last month.

The difference? Not talent. Not experience. Not even location.
It’s the rebooking conversation.

Most therapists end a session with ‘take care, see you when you need me.’ And that’s exactly why the client doesn’t come back.

The therapist with the waitlist ends every session with a clinical rationale, a recommendation, and a soft invitation to book. It takes 90 seconds.

Save this. Come back to it when you need it.

There’s a difference.

Loyalty to you means they come back out of habit. Out of convenience. Because you’re close, or cheap, or familiar.
Loyalty to how you make them feel means they’ll drive past three other clinics to get on your table. They’ll wait weeks for a cancellation. They’ll send their mum, their partner, their whole footy team.

That kind of loyalty isn’t built by being nice.

It’s built on your table. Every single session. Through results they can actually feel - not just “that was relaxing” but “I can turn my neck again.”
Which one are you building?

The treatment room is one of the loneliest places I know.

Not because clients aren’t there. But you’re always the one holding space. Never the one being held.

There’s no staff meeting after a hard session. No colleague to text ‘that one was heavy.’ No one who actually understands what it costs you to do this work day after day.

I built The Massage Advisory because I felt this so acutely in my own practice.

1,000 therapists are in there right now. Sharing what works. Lifting each other. Figuring it out together.

The door is open. And it’s $7 to walk through it.

Tag a therapist who needs to hear this. 💚

The imposter syndrome doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong.

It means you care enough to question yourself.
Every therapist I know who built something real went through a season of feeling like they had no idea what they were doing — while their clients were raving about them.

The gap between how you feel and how your clients experience you? That’s not a red flag. That’s the learning curve doing exactly what it’s supposed to do.

The ones who quit called it a warning sign.
The ones who stayed called it the process.
Which one are you?
