Today we recognise Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) Day — raising awareness of a condition that affects how the brain sends and receives signals throughout the body.
FND is a problem with nervous system functioning, not damage. The brain is structurally intact, but there is a disruption in how movement and sensory signals are processed. This can lead to very real and often distressing symptoms.
Common signs of FND can include:
✔️ Sudden weakness or paralysis
✔️ Tremor or abnormal movements
✔️ Difficulty walking
✔️ Balance problems
✔️ Non-epileptic seizures
✔️ Changes in speech or sensation
Diagnosis is made by a medical professional based on positive clinical signs, not simply by ruling other conditions out. Early identification is important, as appropriate therapy can make a significant difference.
At Coffs Neuro Physio, we understand the complexity of FND and provide personalised physiotherapy programs aimed at retraining movement patterns, improving control, and rebuilding confidence.
If you or someone you care about is experiencing symptoms of FND, support is available.
