Abigail pictured here with mum Chantal is only 16 years old and sadly has just been diagnosed with melanoma after a worrying mole was removed from her foot. A pet scan has come back all clear of melanoma in the organs but an enlarged lymph node in the groin has showed up which will be removed this Wednesday along with the top of her foot, a skin graft will be performed also.
If you read this, let’s send all the strength, prayers in the world that all will be ok 🙏🏻
Let’s show mum Chantal and all the family that they too have support right here 24/7 X

Jay Allen, Community Engagement Manager here at Melanoma Institute Australia gave Ralph a much-appreciated visit, lifting his spirits and letting him know he's not alone.

Ralph is currently in palliative care in Canberra after first being diagnosed with melanoma twenty years ago. He has been a great supporter of Jay's Longest Melanoma March and Melanoma Institute Australia. Jay presented Ralph with his very own jersey and he wore it with pride. Our thoughts are with Ralph and his family.

Skin cancer is a common and possibly life-threatening disease that often suffers from misconceptions. In order to understand what skin cancer is, and what it means for Australians, it is important to put this disease in perspective through some facts and statistics.

There are three main types of skin cancer:

Basal cell carcinoma
Squamous cell carcinoma
Melanoma

Basal cell and squamous call carcinomas are considered non-melanoma skin cancers and are the most common types of skin cancer in Australia. While not the most dangerous type of skin cancer, approximately one-third of skin cancer related deaths are non-melanoma.

Melanoma skin cancer is much less likely than basal or squamous cell carcinomas but is generally much more dangerous, often presenting little symptoms at first it can spread to other parts of the body which can make it very difficult to treat.

At Coffs Coast Skin Cancer Clinic we have many patients that believe they will never get a melanoma & don’t feel the need for a regular skin check with a highly qualified Skin Cancer Doctor. Melanomas can appear on anyone of any age along with many other cancerous skin cancers.
We cannot stress the importance of having a regular skin check. Winter is the best time for your skin check.
