Curation: The action or process of selecting, organising and managing the items in a collection or exhibition with the intention to conserve, display and add value.

With many years of experience as a professional curator, my abilities within art gallery exhibition rooms transition easily to the realm of the private home. I enjoy the opportunity to install art in conjunction with the client creating elegant and cultured aesthetics for their homes. This process involves the hanging and placement of artwork with millimetre perfect attention to detail and considered curation.

Conservation project for an oil on wood panel painting by Nicholas Kachel

Over time paintings collect dust, salt and insect pollution to the surface of the painting, the edges and the reverse thus requiring conservation treatment achieving clean and refreshed results.

Project
1. Clean surface of painting with mininmal water/detergent solution and fine cloth
2. Remove dust particles from the reverse of the wood panel with compressed air and brush
3. Apply one coat of artist quality refined linseed oil to entire surface of the artwork bringing moisture to the paint structure and returning a fresh sheen to the surface of the artwork
4. Conservation of damaged/soiled areas of the artwork with artist quality oil paint where required
5. Hand sand edges of wood panel and then repaint edges with three coats of artist quality acrylic paint (white)
