CLINIC MUSINGS
Reflections from the week in clinic
IS YOUR LITTLE ONE STARTING BIG SCHOOL IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS?
I've been doing lots of “starting school” consults with mamas this week. Talking about immune boosters, nervous system nourishment, school lunchboxes and making up TONNES of Australian bush flower essences to pop in their water bottle to support them throughout the day. Starting big school is big for the kiddos but the parents too! Here are a few things we've been chatting about:
1. Don't oversell it
Kindy is engaging and so much fun. It's easy to slip into borderline toxic positivity and be all “You're going to LOVE kindy!” and “You're going to make SO many new friends!” Which is definitely true but there will also be days where they can't find any friends to play with or they feel overwhelmed with all the changes. Let them know that there will be great parts and tricky parts of each day, and that's ok.
2. Keep the farm calm
Kindy is stimulating academically, physically, socially and emotionally. You might even find they fall asleep in the car on the way home! A good way to balance this out is to not over-commit to too many after school activities (at least for term one) and just have unstructured play like taking the dog down to the beach.
3. Kids are mirrors
Our children will bring up a lot of our own memories around what school was like for us. If we had struggles around learning, feeling left out, etc all of these emotions can resurface. Be gentle with yourself as a parent. Send love to that part of yourself that may not have felt nurtured while also allowing your kiddo to have their own experience. When I make a flower essence for a kiddo, I make one up for the mama too. 💌
This month Arlo is cycling 150km to raise money for kids with cancer
Read more here:
This October, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Because right now, cancer is the largest single killer of children from disease in Australia – over 700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year and sadly, 3 die every week.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
And so I am riding and raising funds to support the Children's Medical Research Institute to continue their work into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and finding a cure for childhood cancer.
Please support my challenge by making a donation through my fundraising page to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Love this idea Tapping with Jules 🩷🩷🩷
Are you feeling tired, like you want the year to be over already?
Feeling stressed, like you are at capacity most days?
Or maybe you're regularly having to push past your limits to get through your daily life.
Whether your stress is related to work, family life, health problems, or financial pressures, we know that many people are feeling the strain at present.
And we all know chronic stress is not good for the body or our mental health.
So to support our community, as part of National Mental Health Week, I will be running six free weekly sessions at the Coffs Harbour Jetty.
Teaching simple mind body techniques to help:
* Reduce stress
* Regulate the nervous system
* Increase energy
In partnership with Lifeline North Coast and Amanda Bos Food Freedom Coach, "Tap, Talk and Barefoot Beach Walk" will be a fun, free way to learn some new self care tools.
Each week you will learn and practice:
* The Daily Energy Routine - to boost energy.
* Simple EFT Tapping techniques which you can take with you to use any time you feel stressed.
* Connecting with and listening to your own body,
whilst connecting with others at the same time.
* Combined with the benefits of grounding your feet on the sand and sea and being in nature.
EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) also known as "Tapping" is an evidence-based stress reduction tool, which reduces stress hormones such as cortisol and helps us reduce negative thoughts, feelings and sensations.
It can be done in therapy with a trained practitioner.
But it is also a great self-help tool which anyone can learn to help reduce stress and overwhelm.
Regular practice of EFT Tapping helps us build Emotional Resilience: enhancing our ability to handle daily stressors.
Join us if you want to feel empowered to help yourself feel better faster, and see how these simple practices can rejuvenate your mind and body.
Fridays 6am
October 11, 18, 25,
Nov 1, 8, 15.
Meet at the Jetty steps near coffee van.
Open to all.
Come for one week, or come every week.
