πŸ’¬ Health Voyage began because a group of women asked:
β€œWhat does our community actually need?”

That question still guides us today β€” and it’s one our Young Leaders Council leads with.

This Youth Week, we’re shining a spotlight on the vital work of our Young Leaders Council, who ensure young people’s voices are heard in shaping health services that are accessible, relevant, and centred on lived experience.

πŸ‘‡ We want to know:
What’s one thing you wish health services understood about young people?

Your insights directly inform the work of the Young Leaders Council and are shared with Health Voyage’s Board, helping guide decisions about how services are designed, delivered, and improved β€” now and into the future.

Because youth voices don’t just matter β€” they influence leadership and drive change.

Celebrating Harmony Day on Yaegl Country in Yamba! 🧑Last month, Cate from our Work & Study team and Social & Emotional Wellbeing Officer Bianca had a wonderful morning at the Yamba Community Centre Harmony Day event, hosted by Yamba TAFE, Mudyala Aboriginal Corporation, and Jempire Events. πŸŽ‰

The team connected with local community members, sharing information about headspace Grafton Maclean outreach and the services available to young people in the area, all while soaking up the incredible multicultural food, music and community spirit. 🎢

Harmony Day is such a beautiful reminder of the strength found in our diverse communities, and we're proud to show up and connect with the people we serve.

A big thank you to Yamba TAFE NSW Mudyala Aboriginal Corporation and Jemire Events for bringing the community together in such a meaningful way! πŸ™Œ

One of the most striking – and troubling – realities of endometriosis is how long it takes to receive a diagnosis. 🌸

On average, women wait between six and eight years from the onset of symptoms before they are finally diagnosed. Just a decade ago, that wait was even longer: seven to twelve years.

'Women are often told their pain is normal,' says Heidi, APA Physiotherapist and Manager of the Endometriosis & Pelvic Pain Program at Health Voyage. 'That normalisation – sometimes even within families, because the condition has a genetic link – means women delay seeking help for years. They assume everyone feels this way.'

The reasons for diagnostic delays are systemic. For decades, laparoscopic surgery was the only recognised way to confirm endometriosis. While specialised ultrasound is now a viable diagnostic tool, it requires specifically trained sonographers and radiologists – a resource that remains scarce in many regional and rural areas. For women outside major cities, this adds another layer of delay and inequality to an already difficult journey.

πŸ’œ This NSW Youth Week, we want every young person across our region to know: you belong here.

Health Voyage offers free, confidential, and inclusive health services for young people - across Gumbaynggirr, Bundjalung and Yaegl nations.

Our roots are in grassroots advocacy - listening to communities and responding with care. That's just as true for young people today as it was when our doors first opened in 1986.

We are incredibly proud of the compassionate, dedicated work our .grafton team brings to hosting the RAGE Program at Acmena. πŸ™πŸΌ

In early March, headspace Grafton clinicians Heather and Don began attending Acmena Youth Justice Centre to deliver the RAGE program β€” Renavigating Anger and Guilty Emotions.

Running over 6 weeks with weekly sessions, the program focuses on equipping young people with alternative strategies, coping mechanisms and psychoeducation around anger management, with the goal of supporting healthier mindsets and stronger foundations for reintegration into the community.

This partnership, which began in 2025, is built on consistency and trust. Heather, Don and the wider headspace Grafton team have worked hard to foster genuine, reliable connections with both staff and young people at Acmena, and there's no slowing down anytime soon.

It's a role both Heather and Don hold with great pride. πŸ’š

What a month it's been for Work & Study at headspace Grafton πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

Our centre had a fun Work & Study makeover, including a themed photo booth in the waiting area where young people could snap a photo and take it home as a keepsake. πŸ“Έ

We also welcomed our very own large, green flexible team member, 'Work & Study Wally', to the team, and launched a quiz to test young people's knowledge on their rights and responsibilities at work (with double chances for the prize if they also follow us on social media).

A big thank you to Angela and her Centrelink colleague for presenting at our all-staff meeting on youth payment options, including Youth Allowance, JobSeeker, ABSTUDY, Austudy, Student Start-up Loans and the Tertiary Access Payment.

Angela visits headspace Grafton monthly to support young people with their Centrelink needs, and this was a wonderful reminder of the strength of that partnership.

And a special shoutout to clinician Diana for the beautiful Work & Study themed morning tea cake πŸŽ‚so delicious!

Our Work & Study team also headed to TAFE's 'Your Future Fest', a free career exploration event for Year 10 students β€” where we set up a stall with info about our services and brought the photo booth along with some career-themed props!

What an incredible month πŸ‘ we're so proud of everything the team has achieved. Until next time! πŸ’š

Reflecting on a wonderful morning in Nambucca Heads! 🌊 Earlier this year, Janene from the Health Voyage team attended the Care & Connection Day, hosted by GambleAware Mid and Northern NSW and Lifeline North Coast 😁

From the moment people arrived, there was a genuine sense of warmth. Community members shared a free BBQ lunch, took part in activities, connected with local services, and discovered new pathways for support.

It was a truly special reminder of what community spirit looks like in action. Health Voyage was proud to be part of the day β€” holding meaningful conversations and sharing information about the services we provide to support people across the region. πŸ™Œ

These moments of genuine connection are exactly why events like this matter so much. πŸ’›

And the good news is it's happening again! The next Care & Connection Day is coming up this Wednesday 1st April β€” you won't want to miss it!
