ALLEN
Norma
18/12/1932 to 20/5/2026
Family and friends are warmly invited to attend a service to celebrate Norma’s life to be held at St Aidan’s Anglican Church, 25 Nelson Street Apollo Bay, on Monday 1st June 2026, commencing at 1 pm.
The funeral will leave for burial at the Apollo Bay Cemetery at the conclusion of the service.
A livestream of the service will be available at www.hallfunerals.com.au.
Norma was an Apollo Bay property owner and visitor since 1981. She became a resident in 1998 and has remained so for the past 28 years. She did not have the requisite number of continuous generations of residency to qualify as local, but she made Apollo Bay her home and community. Many, or most, Apollo Bayians knew Norma. She immersed herself in community though the community choir, the historical society, Do-Care, the Art Show, Apollo Bay Information Centre, and the past Music Festival. In later years Country Women’s Association, the Opportunity Shop, Lavers Hill Swimming Group, and Probus. She was a regular at both the Anglican Church and the Catholic Church. Some would say she was hedging her bets. She viewed it as worshiping the same god, and the brand above the door irrelevant.
Norma loved to socialise. Friends could find a cup of tea, a glass of champagne, a meal, a scone or a cake at Norma’s. It was hard to leave her place in Montrose Avenue without some jars of Norma’s preserves tucked under your arm. Alternatively, she was always up for a chat during her sorties to the Apollo Bay main street for her copy of The Age, a coffee and of course the Apollo Bay newssheet. This sheet was the most important news source because it was news about the community she loved.
Norma signed off at 4:30 am on 20 May 2026. She simply didn’t wake up that morning, so Norma got the peaceful passing that we all hope for. Laura Pengilley Age Care Wing was her home for her last 12 months. The carers, cooks, cleaners, nurses and doctors who cared for her at Laura Pengilley are a magnificent group of people who provide the opportunity for Apollo Bay folk to age with dignity and grace. Apollo Bay is very fortunate to have this facility with its committed staff.
